no way. they have to sign their script as they are liable to the DEA as well as responsible for the meds proper usage.:nono:Its just like if you signed another nurse charts....BUT WORSE! You could probably lose your license!

I really can't see a good reason for it either. Sounds like you did what was supposed to be done. Then again, some preceptors have their own arcane reasons.

Its a lot to do on top of clinicals etc. but a p/t CNA or tech job might actually help clincal proficiency.Just mke sure itr doesn't cause you to lose sleep or have low energy levels for clinicals!:Melody:

as an EMT/Tech now ER nurse I do agree with a lot you are saying,However the ER nurses where i work are extremely qualified for the ER. Many were EMTs at one time, others have to do a critical care/ICU rotation for a year to get considered for the ER. I think the extra emergency skills training is a good idea if needed.Especially the fieldwork.:)

I got a lot of flak from a few people for saying the 80% thing.It was actually told to me my a mentor of mine, a doc who had worked with Debakey, Colley et al, on the first human and artificial heart transplants. He also said any one good nurse was betterr than two doctors( LOVE this GUY! ) It wasn't meant to denigrate MDs it was meant to emphasize ( having worked ER and Critical care) how much we do they used to.They are doing other things and don't often spend the time we do with pts. or even do procedures like they used too.They have become our area of responsibilty. I am attending a program (rn-bsn) in which the BSN's do get more clinical time in ares like gerontology, critical care and Ob-gyn. Also the theory is important. I looking at the whole persons body, mind and spirit. Anway there is nothing wrong with knowing the whys as well as how. A bit more education is a good thing. We all have life-long CME credits to keep up on1 :wink2:

I don't get it.I know that misdemeanors are not counted against you and that charges of violence or moral terpitude( like soliciting etc) can keep you from being an RN but CNA? Are you in a BSN program because after the first two years and level ones are done you automatically qualify as a CNA is some states such as this one. Good luck!

Again and again this go round with rn versus bsn. They both take the same tests. Dividing us up is not the way to stay unified and focused on patient care as well as safety. We are all RN's.WE need to unite and stay together!

Totally agree! Every other profession regards a bachelors as a sign of true education.Some RN's do resent us but it shouldn't be that way.Unfortunately i have had similar experiences to yours.Change is not always readily accepted.I for one will be proud to wear RN-BSN as well as CNS when i get my clinical nurse specialist cert. :biere: :yeahthat:

yes a big difference in areas like complex care, hospice, pain management , forensics etc. Also a huge emphasis on the body, mind ,spirit, aspect. Each program is a little different.

Thats why here its RN-BSN. Its the RN that means you passed the board.The BSN just means we have a bachelors.WE are still RN, s when licensed anmd that is what they want to see.

many do but some don't.besides its the RN thats important to pts.They really don't care about the educational level as long as they know you have the RN. Same as a clinical nurse specialist or APRN. they do put those on badges but many patients dont know what it means.In the ER or ICU most only care about living and who provides them relief from suffering and help. I am getting my BSN soon in an RN-BSN program. It doesn't matter tpoo much although like you I would like to wear the RN-BSN.

you are so right.Great points.Instead of dissing more education we should be embracing it.Our profession is one of lifelong learning and some of these so called "BS book learnin'" is not a waste.The more educated you are,the more in sync with the Dungan Dynamics which fosus on body,mind, and spirit. the better the care we can provide. :yeahthat:

I really wish yoiu would look at more than one programs srtucture.Lacking in clinicals is not a fact. our program is heavily based on clinicals.As i said before there is one class in management the rest are clinical rotations or research. Not all BSN programs are the same .

thank you! Sometimes when the future comes knocking it's not an easy thing.I am told that a similar law proposed here in Hawaii split the Hawaii Nurses Association apart. It is unfortunate because it causes us to fight amongst each other when we should be fighting for better pay, hours, and safe, workable, nurse to patient ratios. Aloha! :) :wink2:
