Looking for thoughts/opinions of experienced nurses
I can think of a lot of different conditions that could drop a BP that low in less than 15 minutes and most are life threatening. It's scary thinking someone so medically unaware is managing care of patients AKA your supervisor. Your gut is one of your best resources. Keep trusting yours and it will prevent recklessness like this in the future (not on you but woof...)

Medication Error in School
Bullet point 2 absolves you from guilt in my opinion. Hopefully you have nurse practice insurance (we all should always). Perhaps you can get legal aid through your insurance? It sounds like you were wrongfully suspended to me and that's loss of wages. At my clinic patients that bring their own meds sign a non tamper waiver. Hopefully there is something similar for parents bringing meds?

Switching Careers from Nursing because I hate it so much
Thank you for cracking me up with this comment. Way too relatable! I'm currently looking into your nursing personally. Burnout post bedside nursing is real! I do feel like my hospital did a good job preparing me for what was to come as a new grad nurse. We had regular classes regarding preventing burnout. Talking about the valley of despair made me feel validated in my frustrations. I think management often causes a lot of these problems for floor nurses, not to mention those patients who think this is a spa day. Hope you find a new path that hopefully utilizes your previous hard work.

Infant given wrong amount of milk for first feeding...
I know it's very anxiety inducing to make a mistake (and for good reason because that's how we prevent mistakes from recurring!). All in all, it sounds like the baby was just fine. It would be concerning that she might have vomited which could obviously be dangerous but it sounds like she didn't and ended up reverting to the correct feed amount later. Hopefully you documented your mistake as your facility advises and were honest about the incident. Sounds like your patient is fine though and I'm sure you will be more diligent about taking the moment to read the orders more thoroughly in the future.

Vaccine Excursion
OK an update: All the vaccines were fine to use according to VFC. Holy moly did I dodge a bullet though. Revised my policies and WILL NOT make that mistake again. I found that peripatetic had a good idea of what was to come. Thanks for the time of day.

Night Shift Struggles
I see that this is an old post with some newer request for follow up. So here's my experience: I worked in the hospital on nights for 2.5 years and it felt like I lost that time except for my time at work. I didn't take sleep aids (because they made me so hungover feeling) but my life revolved around when I would sleep and how much I could get. It sounds like OP is describing depression which is concerning but not unusual. When I did new grad orientation we talked about the valley of despair happening about 6 months in and triggering lots of doubts about capability and whether nursing was even there right choice. These feelings are so common and I was very unhappy in general working that schedule even though I was a relative night owl. It did get easier once I got into something of a rhythm but the way you group your shifts can really affect how well that works (3 on - 2 off - 3 on was perfect for me). On my days off I would go to the 24 hour grocery store and 24 hour gym and it helped to have something to do on my schedule. When it was my turn to go to days I realized I would be even more miserable with how busy it was. So I took a job in a clinic! It has its own perks and drawbacks but I feel like myself again with the sleep schedule. Good luck, it is a very tough adjustment though. You should consider tapping into your Employee Assistance Program.

Vaccine Excursion
I transported the them with cold packs from the fridge and cold water bottles from the fridge. There was a temp logger packed into the lot. I followed an old protocol from the person previously in this role but now that I've carried out transport I can see that that policy needs some adjustments (which I'm planning to make). Now I see that the recommendation is using conditioned frozen water bottles instead of refrigerated cold packs. It was a very short trip and I didn't realize just how fast the temperature would change. I'm planning to call my VFC provider Monday just looking for any experiences with this. Thanks for the input.

Vaccine Excursion
Hi guys, just looking for some advice or experiences. I'm fairly new to a facility where I am now acting as a vaccine nurse. I had to transport our vaccines to another facility and, long story short, I did not package them properly. I thought I did until I arrived at the facility and they were 51 degrees F (should be max of 46). The duration of the excursion was less than 30 minutes but I am pretty worried about the vaccines being viable and I don't know if my site will be charged for the losses. I am pretty sure the MMR is toast and I'm especially worried about the Tubersol because my boss told me it's very expensive (they all are!). I haven't called VFC because it happened right at the end of the work day before the weekend. Any experiences with this? I just don't know what to expect.
