Medical Mission Trips
Hi all, I've always wanted to do a medical mission trip. Now currently working in a school setting, I have the flexibility and have the free time to do them during Winter break, Spring break, and Summer breaks). Has anyone done a medical mission trip before? If so what agency/company have you done them through? Qualifications? (LPN, RN, RN with a BSN? etc.) How was your experience? Thanks in advance!

Moving to Texas
My family is moving to Austin, Tx in January and I am starting to job hunt right now. do you 1) apply for a position right away or 2) apply for your nursing license first and then apply for the position I ask because I know some companies are willing to reimburse for license fees. In your experience what is best practice? How long does the licensing process take for Texas endorsement?

Michigan Nursing License
@Luckyyou did you apply through endorsement by any chance? I called Identogo and they said they're waiting for a TCN number to process and then I have to call my requesting agency with that TCN number? Not sure whats going on to be honest...I thought they processed all that on their end and I was just supposed to wait for my name to pop up on the BON

Tips for IM injections?
Thinking about volunteering at my village health department to give vaccinations for covid. I'm hesitant to join because I don't have much experience but I'm eager to learn and know I will be confident with appropriate tips and skills. Any tips or specifics I should know when doing IM injections?

Michigan Nursing License
How long did it take to get your Michigan license through endorsement (or your name to pop up on the BON)? I applied about a week and a half ago and Fedex-ED my fingerprint documents to IDENTOGO in Tennessee. The guy working at Fedex said it should arrive Wednesday 3/3. How long does it usually take after this point? I've already submitted my SSN affidavit and application is good to go. Just waiting for the fingerprints. Thanks!

Illinois Nursing License Release With Default Loans
Hello, Asking for a friend...A friend of mine recently passed her NCLEX (woohoo!) and got their letter to file for her license to be processed. In the state of Illinois, I know if you have default loans, the regulatory body will deny your application for licensure. With the loan collection stopped until September 2021 (including default collections I believe) does she have a chance to get her license processed and be on the Illinois BON with no issue? Anyone experience this situation? Thanks in advance!

LPNs and IEPs
Hello all, I'm about 3 weeks into my new job of being a school nurse as an LPN (I'm working side by side with a Bachelors prepared RN). She had shared with me to be able to participate in being a Medical Reviewer with IEPs in the state of Illinois, you can either be a certified school nurse or be a Bachelor prepared nurse with IEP privileges? I wanted to know if there are ways LPNs can have IEP privileges to be Medical Reviewers and participate in these IEPs? Do you really need to have a Bachelors? Whats the process to have IEP privileges? TIA!

LPN School Nurse Interview
@T-ROD I'm loving it so far! I'm learning so many things and I'm glad I didn't start off in bedside. I'm happy that I went straight for it and honestly it all makes the difference! These teachers and staff are so appreciative and willing to go above and beyond to help me become comfortable!

Illinois Licensing - LPN
@JEMIK I have yet to submit my application for licensure. I can tell you though that a friend of mine who took the exam got his results, applied for his license to be released, and had his name pop up in the BON all within 3 weeks. I'll keep you updated from my personal experience!

LPN to BSN programs (online)
Currently passed my NCLEX-PN about a month ago and deciding to save up for school. Any LPN to BSN programs out there that I should look into that would be approved for me to me to sit for NCLEX-RN and practice as an RN in Illinois? I know there are some LPN-RN (Associate degree) programs out there but I wanted to know if there are schools that would just let me skip that step and go straight for a Bachelors Thanks!

Ordering Supplies
Hi fellow nurses! Current new hire as a second school nurse at a high school but will be covering a middle school temporarily while they interview for a permanent one. While I was orientation, my preceptor told me I can order anything I want that I think I will need. Any advice to a new school nurse? We are loaded with disinfectant sprays, wipes, and PPE for our rapid covid swabbing and in general. Are there any supplies you think will be beneficial for me as I cover the middle school temporarily? Thanks!

LPN School Nurse Interview
@ruby_jane and @NutmeggeRN thank you guys! The superintendent offered me the position! I will be getting back to him with my response tomorrow since they are having a board meeting tonight when the students will officially be returning (either the third week or fourth week of January!) He said he would throw in my contract that I could get my scrubs paid for! I'm guessing this would probably be like reimbursement but I'll check! Do you think that the budget for these scrubs will be limited or I can just get 100% of my money back regardless of which brand of scrubs I get?

LPN School Nurse Interview
Thank you! I intend on picking up this as a full time job and working once a week, school breaks, and summers at a skilled facility near me! Thank you so much for the input! Sorry for the vagueness! I will be working closely with the certified school nurse!

LPN School Nurse Interview
Hi all, I'm a new grad LPN and have a video interview with the superintendent at one of the high schools. Any tips for the interview in terms of questions they might ask? If the salary question pops up, how do you negotiate a salary for a new grad LPN as a school nurse? (What is the typical salary in this field for a newbie in the Chicago suburbs?) Thanks!

LPN role on a medical surgical unit?
Hi guys! Recently passed my NCLEX-PN and applied for an LPN position on a medical surgical unit at a local hospital. It's a pretty big healthcare system and the area I live in (the Chicagoland area) its very rare for LPNs to work in the hospital setting. I wanted to know what the scope of practice is if any of you have/are been an LPN on on the hospital floors. Are there big differences between the RNs/LPNs? - I checked already and this position will be considered as a nurse position not a PCT/NCT (another healthcare system hires LPNs as nursing techs, not staff nurses). Thanks!

Illinois Licensing - LPN
Hi all, I took my NCLEX-PN on December 23 and found out I passed on the 25th! I've heard the Illinois is one of the states that take a while for you to actually get your license and start working. (side note: I know that I can expect a letter coming soon that I can practice as a nurse with a pending license) Does anyone know approximately how long I have to wait for my name to pop up on the board? I heard I should also be expecting a letter in the mail for me to fill out to process my license along with a $50 money order. Thanks so much!

Applying to SNF, Post-Hospital Rehab Facilities before graduation/NCLEX-PN?
Hi all, I'm a month shy from graduating (December 5, 2020) and hoping to take my NCLEX-PN not too long after (December 2020). I know in the hospital settings, I've had friends that were near the end of their ADN/BSN programs applying to hospitals before graduating and taking the NCLEX-RN. Does this apply to SNFs and Post-Hospital Rehab Facilities for LPNs? Or would DONs and HR of these facilities wouldn't even bother looking at the application if the applicant doesn't have their license yet. Thanks!

ARCHER REVIEW NCLEX-RN
Did anyone find Archer Review for the NCLEX-PN in specific helpful? I'm starting to find the questions, answers, and rationales worded so weird. I've only used ATI throughout my whole program so maybe someone can shed some light to it.

When to get covid tested?
A friend of mine got exposed to covid-19 on October 31st (this friend went to a halloween party....sigh). When should they get tested? I've heard different people say 1) to get tested ASAP or 2) wait 5 days (just in case for false negative) - get tested again after 14 days just in case of a false negative? I know they should get tested regardless but when are the appropriate dates?

Job Applications
I'm graduating next month with an expected NCLEX date in December 2020. I'm starting to look for jobs now and some of these places that I've really dreamed of getting require 6 months/9 months/1-2 years experience. Do you think it is a waste of time on my end (and the people reviewing applications) to even fill out the application? I've had experience as a tech for 3.5 years but no nursing experience at all.

BLS Renewal
I have BLS certification that expires October 2020. Does anyone know if AHA is extending certifications deadlines still? If not, I've heard about hybrid BLS classes where you do the theory online and take the test there and go to an in-person site to do the clinical aspect (compressions and ventilation). Can someone tell me there experiences with that?
