Hi! I just received my acceptance letter to Ashland's ABSN program for Spring 2021. I have so many questions! How is the program, pros/cons? How would you rate the support from faculty and staff? How are clinical rotations? What kind of extracurriculars are available in Ashland? What are the best areas to start looking for apartments? Anyone else accepted and starting this Spring? Hey there! I just read through this thread and I am feeling a little disheartened. How has the program been for you? I am a POC and I absolutely fear experiencing some of the comments posted on here. Have you witnessed or experienced this from faculty & professors? I have applied and I am just waiting for my transcript evaluation and a decision. I've been accepted to a few schools already but I am highly considering Ashland because it is way more affordable compared to my other programs. Anyone else a current student in the ABSN program please comment!!

Hi, I am in the same exact boat as your daughter. I have my BS. in Chemistry and my end goal is to become a FNP. I have recently been accepted to the University of Maryland Direct entry to nursing with a Clinical Nurse Leader focus and now I am second-guessing on whether or not to accept my offer because of the COA. (I am out of state) Does anyone have any advice? I am wanting to complete my schooling sooner rather than later. Is it naive or 'wishful thinking' to think that I can off-set the potential debt with loan repayment programs after completing my program and working as an RN? I have 10 days to make a decision to accept my offer and I am beyond stressed!

Hi there! I know this is a super old thread but I was just accepted into the CNL program at UMSON and I desperately need advice! I have exactly 10 days to accept my offer. My biggest concern is affording it. I am out-of-state so tuition is almost double that of in-state. Do you have any advice? What is the true likelihood of receiving scholarships such as the CNL scholars program, Conway scholarship, and donor-funded scholarships?

Hi there! I have so many questions regarding UMSON CNL program. Did you work during your first year? During my interview, a faculty member said students after their first year can challenge the CNA exam and work as a CNA part-time. Do you know anyone who has done this? Also, did you apply for and receive the CNL scholars scholarship, if so, do you know what specifically the committee is looking for. How has the program been since it has converted to virtual due to COVID? I have less than 2 weeks to make a pay my deposit and I am nervous about making the right decision financially. There are so many entry points into nursing what made you choose UMSON? So sorry for all of the questions! I feel like I am going insane trying to make a decision!

Hey there! CONGRATS on your acceptance! I was just admitted to UMSON CNL program for Spring 2021. How soon after you received your offer did you find out that you are a Conway scholar recipient?

The biggest thing that is kinda hard to accept is that regardless of the program ADN, ABSN, direct entry MSN, as an RN we will all have 'around' the same starting salary. Of course over time once we can gain experience I would think more opportunities with better pay would present themselves to those with higher education. I cannot wrap my brain around the huge differences in cost considering we'll be paid the same starting out. My end goal after gaining some years of experience is to become a FNP. So I figure getting the MSN now will have me closer to my goal because I'll just have to do a post-master's certificate. In my interview, they said Fall 2020 is starting off remote and I believe Spring will too.

Did anyone also apply to ABSN programs too? If you have been accepted to both UMSON and ABSN programs what has been your deciding factor to accept your offer to UMSON. The COA is starting to look a little worrisome ?

Thank you! I submitted my app on 6/19, committee review 7/8, interview invite 8/5 interview on 8/10, and received an offer on 9/4.

Yes, it sounds like you've been accepted! Check your application portal. When you guys check do you see a review date and action beside your letter of recommendation?

Hi everyone thank you so much for the responses. As a non-nurse I am surprised that the CNL role isn’t as well known as various programs perceive it to be. As a non-nurse with a BS I thought that I should shoot for the higher degree. But I am now rethinking that. I know eventually I want to become an APRN. However, I do not think it’s wise to completely to lock in exactly what I think I want to do considering I have no experience as a nurse under my belt. I am am ready to get to my end goal but I could have better stated that. I am more so ready to get through whichever program I choose and begin working!! I graduated college 2 years ago and since then I’ve worked as a EMT and a high school teacher. I absolutely loved both experiences but I’m ready to start my dream career. I think overall my biggest problem is that I want an accelerated program and I would love something affordable and those 2 things are hard to find. Again, thanks to everyone for their responses and expertise. I have a lot of thinking to do!

@Skips Hi could you help me clarify a few things in regard to nursing. I have a non-nursing bachelor's degree and I looking to transition into nursing. I have been accepted to ABSN programs and I am waiting on a decision from a direct entry MSN/CNL program. My end goal is become a FNP. I am beyond stressed about making the right decision financially! I receive a lot of advice that I should do ADN - BSN - MSN route. What do you think is best? Timing is a big deal for me, I would like to get to my end goal as soon as possible. Also, is the starting salary for RNs truly the same despite the level of eduction (ADN vs. BSN vs. MSN). Lastly, are new grad CNLs able to start working in that role, or do employers want them to work beside first before transitioning into their CNL role?

Overall cGPA= 3.21 Science GPA= 3.52 based on the pre-req for UMSON roughly 1000 hours of experience as an EMT
