Amaka- Do you remember the admission process? I submitted my application, resume, and transcripts but was never asked for letter of recommendations or to take an exam. I know at my previous school there was a lot of paperwork that needed to be done prior to the admission. Do you remember having to submit a letter of recommendation or take an exam?

GeroPsych- I also have had issues with getting answers. Do you mind telling me what you had to submit for the admission process? I filled out the application, submitted my resume and transcripts. According to the admissions counselor I will get a welcome call in the next two weeks and will attend orientation a week before classes start.... I thought there would be more to it, such as submitting a letter of recommendation and take an exam? They also told me that they would find preceptors if I start Aug 31 2020. That is a really good idea to have them send it in writing! I wonder why they can't? I do know they are super busy due to Covid but it is definitely making me wary about this program.

Amaka- Do you have your BSN or MSN? Just curious where you'll be starting in the program. Applepie- July 1st or the 31st Is the deadline (I can't remember which one ?)

MSN PMHNP- but I have my Masters so depending on which classes transfer I may be getting my post masters....what about you? Well, you'll be able to have the support from the school to help find you preceptors which is a huge bonus, especially with COVID and all the uncertainties. Keep in touch, just in case we end up starting together ?

I actually heard from the admissions recruiter that anyone applying aug 31 2020 and beyond will have their department team find preceptors for them! I would like to start sooner now. I am trying to start sometime this year, if not beginning of next year! What about yourself?

I am actually wondering If in 2021, they are expected to find preceptors. Because another student on here is starting Fall 2020 and she has to find her own preceptors. I wonder if there is just going to be a change next year.

A student replied back stating that some are having difficulty finding preceptors and even have to pay preceptors to accept them. I emailed the admissions counselor asking if she could explain why the current students have to find their own. I am hoping they just redesigned the program for new oncoming students. I am waiting to hear back from the admissions counselor. If you hear anything please let me know ?

Yes, the post masters PMHNP program at Wilkes Barre University. No, I am in IL. She even said they have a whole department that works on this for students! I feel like I am talking about a whole different school haha This is pretty upsetting because that is what made my decision to attend this school. I am glad I read your post. I gave her my unofficial transcripts to see how long the program would be for me and the cost - I am still waiting to hear back (I haven't taken patho, pharm, or health assessment). She still said it would only take 1.5 yrs but will look at my transcripts and let me know. That didn't make sense to me either.. 1.5yrs and still need patho pharm and health assessment? How have you liked Wilkes, otherwise? I have also had my eye out for Eastern Kentucky, I am not sure if you heard anything about that school.

WOW!, is right! I did ask about it being within a reasonable distance and she said absolutely it would be close to home?? I am now very confused! I will have to set up another meeting with her and discuss this. She did say that she is fairly new, but sounded like when she didn't know something she wanted to look into and was going to email me back the answer. That is very unfortunate. She said students are not struggling with clinical hours right now due to covid that if they are they find placement elsewhere for them and are able to complete the hours on time. Now, I am not sure if I believe anything that she has told me. I will schedule a meeting with her again and see if she can explain.

I spoke to Wilkes today....did they tell you that they find preceptors for you? I just read from someones post on here (who is in the psych NP program) that they are having difficulty finding a preceptor... so now I am confused?

I just spoke to admissions today and she told me that they find clinical placement for you - but I just read from someone on one of the boards that they don't find placement for you and they were having trouble finding preceptors. She also told me that if due to covid the preceptor is unable to have you they will find placement elsewhere. Again, from a post that I read, students are having difficulty finding preceptors due to covid. So, I am curious if something changed in the last few months or if I received the wrong information? I am waiting for a response from the student that was having difficulty finding a preceptor- I'll keep you updated.

Can I ask why you chose Wilkes over EKU? And for the one time that you do need to be on campus- how long do you need to be there for.. a day...three days..a week?

Hi KristyK5387- I'm curious if you have decided on a program yet? 'm still leaning towards EKU. I looked into Wilkes which seems like a really good program, but you have to go in a couple of days for 3 of the courses. I am in Illinois, so that would be too fa roflcopters a commute for me.

Have you heard anything about EKU?

Hey! Have you heard anything about this program? I am debating on NKU EKU and St.Francis. I know NKU is 7 week classes where as EKU is 8 weeks. I’ve heard from eku advertisement that they have a 95% pass rate with boards and they don’t accept everyone. I also heard EKU has proctored exams which is good. I really haven’t heard much about NKU? I haven’t gotten any responses for my question on here either - maybe we can help each other out. Let me know if you find out anymore information ?
