  1. I had a similar experience with my Microbiology instructor. It was my last prerequisite before starting Nursing School in September. It was an afternoon class in July. The instructor had the nerve to come in one day and tell us that she was unhappy because she would rather be swimming in her pool! We were never able to see any of our test results and had to wait until the course was over to know our overall grade. Crazy! I was an older student in the Summer of 2000 and hadn't been in college since I graduated in 1980, so I really didn't kn ow if I could switch to another professor. My Microbiology professor was horrible, and trust me, nothing in nursing school came close to that crazy class/instructor. Ironically, Microbiology was very important for me, besides the basic knowledge that nurses need. I have worked in infection control and as a sepsis coordinator. I would suggest that if you can switch to another class or take the Microbiology course at another school, do it! Please check with your current school/nursing school to be sure that they will take credits from another accredited school. Generally prerequisites are transferrable. All the best for a successful nursing future!
  2. If you already have a Bachelors level degree--consider a fast track nursing program, as others of mentioned. It's never wrong to change careers if that's what is in your heart. I know someone who was a trained chef for many years. He decided to go to nursing school and worked his way up to a CRNA degree. Investigate, shadow if you can, and go for it.
  3. Depends on the organization. A friend, after working 17 years for the same hospital, gave 4 weeks notice, willing to train her replacement, but was told she would never be hired again within the organization. No, she did not have any issues with her employment. She was leaving for a better opportunity and more money. Such nastiness is what gives the profession a bad name.
