ebonygirl, i am sorry, but i don't remember how far back they went. my advice would be to ask the dean of your nursing program. sorry that i couldn't help more.

congrats on starting nursing school and thanks for being a paramedic for so long. i worked in the er for a while, and i realize what an awesome job y'all really do. about st. jude, i have never personally worked there, but we went on a recruitment trip there during school. to my surprise, there are actually only about 60 inpatient beds in that huge facility. it is mostly outpatient and research. i don't know how far mountain home is from memphis, but if it is possible i would recommend you applying for an internship to get your foot in the door. if you need any additional information, please pm me, and i will get you a contact's name and email (my nsg mgmt professor is the cno at st. jude). good luck in school! :)

hi! :) i just recently graduated from stcc. i am sorry, but i don't 100% understand your question. if you are asking about what i think you are, i have never heard of anyone ever failing foundations clinical. the only way you could fail would be if you killed a patient, didn't ever show up, didn't do any of the work or anything along those lines. if you don't mind, can i ask what happened? i am sure it wasn't that bad. who is your clinical instructor? who is your class instructor? if you feel more comfortable, you can private message me. thank you, so much for all the warm wishes! i will be working in emergency. i started orientation this past thursday. i am so nervous. my nursing "backbone" better get here soon. my migraines had gotten a lot better. i did have them during school one or two per week, but since graduation i only had one or two. this past one started on tuesday. i still had it on wednesday, but it was gone thursday. much to my dismay, i woke up friday morning at 3 to severe pain & nausea. i just chalk it up to the stress of the nclex & waiting for the results. i truly believe all of my migraines are caused by stress. thank you, again to all! :)

hi, moninurse! :) i was exactly where you were this time last week. i took the nclex last tuesday, and where i live they don't participate in the 48 hr results. i also checked the website 4 - 5 times per day and called the phone # for the licensing board at least 3 times per day. i got my answer first from the telephone #, which was 8 days after the test. the website didn't update until the next day. does your state have a 800 (or something like that) number that you can call? if so, try that & see what you get. my recording kept saying, "that social security number is not in our database", but when it finally went through, i really didn't believe it! i had 75 questions also. when the computer shut off, i begged for more questions. i am sure you did well. best wishes!

i passed! yesterday, i had a very bad migraine w/nausea & vomiting. between puking, i called the licensing board & found out that i passed. then, i ran to the bathroom once again for another puking episode. i thought to myself i did it, and what a way to celebrate! yeah!! :balloons:

i took my nclex yesterday, too, and i only had 75 questions. i did the exact same thing when my computer shut off. *lol* you are so lucky that you only have to wait 48 hrs to find out your results. my state does not participate in that system. we have to wait at least a week. i am already a nervous wreck! i don't know how i will last! what worries me the most is that i know of a couple of people who did fail with 75 questions. however, most of the people i do know or have heard about have passed with 75. i am so confused! good luck!

hey girl, i am also on my 3rd day of a review course through meds, inc. (the same people who offer the ls rn computer program). it is so boring! they gave us a review book on the 1st day, and they have pretty much just read the book to us. our school paid for this course and require that we attend all 4 days before they will sign off on our board application. the hurst review was the one that most of us wanted to attend, but it is being offered this week, also. i believe memphispanda is attending that one. however, the hospital that i am working in offers us the hurst review on videotape for free, and they will pay us for 32 hrs for viewing those tapes. not bad! i plan on completing those next week, so i can take the nclex asap. about our new usernames, i am sorry, but i haven't been able to come up with one for ortho. i think i am going to change mine to "errnmoni". how does that sound? i am not that creative, sorry! holler at you soon!

hey nurs2b, we finally did it! can you believe it? you are so right about all the headaches. since graduation (dec 13th), i have had only one migraine! i usually get at least 1 or 2 per week. my neurologist was the 4th person i called to tell them i passed. the nurse told him my message, and he called me back within 10 minutes to congratulate me and give me strict orders of no more schooling (i plan on going to get a msn asap) until the migraines are under control. since then, he has called every week to see how many migraines i have had. sorry i forgot, but what department are you working in? i switched from l/d to emergency. i love it! well, i have only worked one shift, but it was amazing. i was busy the whole time there. my shift went by so quickly, but i learned so much in one day. my highlight was proving a doc wrong. of course, i didn't tell him, but i did tell my fellow nurses. as soon as we pass the nclex, we have got to talk to brian about a name change! :chuckle i hope you are having a safe and happy new year!

just a few short hours ago, i finished my first er shift. it was simply amazing! no, i didn't get to see anything strange or intense. all i did was triage & minor acuity patients. the best part was that every few minutes i was learning something new. because of that, time flew by! by the end of the day, i had completed 4 - 5 ekgs, drawn labs on several pts, triaged several pts that were brought in by ambulance, and assisted on a chest tube & peg tube insertion. the staff nurses were wonderful! they "tested" me all day long. instead of me asking "why?" and "how do you do ...", they had already asked me those questions. i have a couple of staff nurses in mind that i would like for them to be my preceptor, whenever i start orientation. next friday night (7p - 7a) will be my next shift. we only can work 12 hrs/week, until we pass our boards. i can't wait to go back!

hey gang, as of dec 24th, i am one of y'all. i graduated this past saturday. i am so excited and nervous. i did my internship in l/d & l/d triage. i fully realize ed is totally different! any words of advice for a newbie? i love to ask questions, but who should i not ask questions to, if any? any other advice and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! thanks!

thank you so much for your responses! :) to answer some of your questions: 1) the physician did not speak to me about addiction. my physician has filled out a card that i take into the er when i go. i also have a prescription for imitrex injections, phenergan & stadol, but they did not work for this migraine. i usually take dilaudid w/no drowsiness side effect, but if i take demerol or morphine, they just make me incredibly loopy. also, they don't get rid of the pain. my doc knows that i am fully aware of the effects of dilaudid. he has seen me on both demerol and dilaudid, and he is amazed at the completely different effects they have on me. he knows that i am seeking other forms of treatment, except meds. i have been receiving accupuncture treatments, attending relaxation technique classes and locating homeopathic remedies. also, i believe that a lot of my migraines are because of tmj & stress. my tmj is so bad that my bite is off, so every once in a while during chewing, i will bite a chunk out of my lip and/or cheek. i have attempted mouth guards (bite right through them while sleeping), braces (didn't work, but i have straight teeth now), and even cortisone shots (didn't work). my next option is jaw surgery, but i wanted to wait until i was done with nursing school. 2) my dad is aware of most of my medical situations. my dad is a chf patient & type ii diabetic, and my mom is a breast & lymphatic cancer survivor. in my opinion, they have enough to worry about. i don't want to bother them everytime i went to the er. my husband usually takes me, but he was stuck at work. 3) my migraines only get bad enough to go to the hospital about once a month. if my "wonderful" insurance paid for in-office shots, my doc would start carrying dilaudid. he only has demerol. i told him that i would start paying for the shots out-of-pocket. he said that he wanted me to still go to the er when i pass out during the migraines, which happens about 30 - 40% of the time. my insurance only covers ct scans, and they won't cover mris. can you believe it? my doc even mentioned that maybe next time when "something pops, the pressure changes in my head and i pass out" he was going to admit me, so they would pay for it. i love insurance! 4) my doc has also given me strict instructions to put off anymore school until these things are under control. i was planning on starting my msn next fall. he has put a halt to all of that. 5) during my last clinical rotation, i spent several days down in this ed. they even offered me a gn positon. during my time there, i pretty much worked with this one nurse. i had mentioned my migraines, how i respond to them and my concern to work at the place where i have to go for treatment for them. she said it wouldn't be a problem. this nurse was my nurse friday night. when she came back to check on me after giving the med, i was perfectly lucid (no vomiting since). we even talked about my clinical experience and, hopefully, my upcoming graduation. why didn't they mention it then? 6) the previous time i was in there for a migraine, they recognized me and asked for my card. this was another nurse that i happened to work with during my clinical. they took me straight back, and i gave them my card. she gave me my shot and discharged me. she said there was no reason for me to sit out there. if this migraine is like my others, she said lets just give you your shot, and you can get home to rest. 7) my husband's family has a lot of physicians, so i specifically requested that no one knows that i am a patient at that facility & that my husband is the only person that should be notified and/or informed. 8) i have the upmost respect for emergency nurses, that is why i chose to work in ed after graduation. i believe y'all are the most informed & prepared nurses out there! you have to deal with everything and keep your wits about ya. i believe if you can make it in ed, that you can make it anywhere in nursing. you are awesome to put up with what you do and to handle it so well! sorry for the long rant! i just wanted to make sure that i answered all of y'all's questions. thank you again for taking the time to respond! :)

(can you tell it is finals time? *lol*). i called my doc to get a shot in his office, and i would pay out of pocket for it. the nurse said sure & to come on in. my father drove me over. then, we found out my doc does not have the med i need, and my only option is to go over to the er. i cried (i was already in tears from the pain) & begged not to go, because i knew what they would think. the doc & nurse said to scr*w what they think. you are in pain & vomiting. you need the medication now. to make a long story somewhat shorter, my dad took me to the ed. after going through triage, filling out/signing insurance forms and vomiting 3 times in an emesis basin in the middle of the waiting room, they took me back to fast-track. i didn't care that i was vomiting in the middle of the waiting room at that point. i was in too much pain. per my father, the doc & the nurse pulled him out in the hall to discuss the medication that i was taking & the fact that i was just there a week ago. they felt they needed to let someone know that this medication is highly addictive. excuse me, but can you say, "hipaa violation!" they should not be discussing my care and history at that hospital with anyone else. my father didn't tell me until we got to his home. one might say that i was incapicitated, but i was able to sign for my insurance & privacy rights. at that time, i had not yet received any meds from them. they had absolutely no right to discuss my information with my dad! i was absolutely livid! my question for y'all is: do i have a right to be upset? one of my classmates said i need to call the director of the hospital & tell them what happened. i think someone should know that they severely violated hipaa. what do y'all think? thanks!
