  1. http://www.accd.edu/sac/nursing/math/convers.html hope this helps
  2. I learned that God is most precious and allnurses.com is the place to be.
  3. If its experience you need take it, the area and location are perfect for you. Use each job as a stepping stone in your career, complete each tasks to the best of your ability and learn. Life is a journey experience it.
  4. Remember when studying if you don't know how to apply the work, it will never make sense. The head bones are connected to the neck bones, now name them, the bones and blood vessels and nerve supply. All the work is a long story book, get old exam papers and go over them and apply to daily life. Never give up your dreams, but maybe a break is needed? May God bless your going out and coming in from this time forward and forever more.
  5. This topic was discussed by myself and 2IC (second in charge) yesterday! One hospital has incentives and a point system that if a patient is happy with the service, you give them a card and they tell management how wonderful you are. After receiving a certain amount of points you can then reveive a gift maybe micro-wave, toaster whatever you wish from that amount of points. It did not work! The company has recently employed outsiders to investigate why their is such an out flow from their establishment. I believe the above comments that have been made are the answer. Belonging, team work, money, respect. When dealing with junior staff I always stop and listen and explain procedures and what my train of thought is. I go to the patient and enter into the nursing notes that something has been reported to me and my solution, the nurses are all part of the team and we function as so.
  6. Nursing is a culture, a way of life, it is exciting you live , eat and breath nursing. All who enter should aquire knowledge and skills that enable nurses to cope with stress. All must be treated with dignity and respect including the nursing staff. The behavior of the doctor is not acceptable, are you not able to approach, management concerning his behavior.
  7. Had such severe migraines found out I was hypertensive , the medication cleared most of the migraine's. Maybe check your blood pressure! lol.
  8. People who enter nuring in our country have an attitude that standards and values must be according to their practice and not ours. As I have seen many people go through our wards, they need you to teach with kid gloves. To go over and over material, to take on their worries. To all nurses educators keep shining as I am a-wanna-be-nurse-educator.
  9. I know of many South African nurses who have gone to work abroad eg: Saudi they donot have the four course but two year RN diploma.
  10. I am one of the older nurses, my shift starts when I wake at 4.45 am make java, wonder around and thank God that I am employed. I love nursing and try to plan my day mentally and go through issues like communication and treatment of personnel and how I can improve on my self as a leader. With the policies and procedures manuals to guide me and I know my scope of practice, I enter the day, yes! I would recommend nursing and all its flaws to others and try and instill a sense of pride into all who enter the profession.
  11. How much oxygen is the patient getting during a seizure if they are blue, none! Cautionary measures, call for doctor, or summons help. Turning a patient on your own left arm to right shoulder, left leg over right remember to bend your legs and shift the patient onto his/her side by pulling the buttock towards you. Open the oxygen fully an ambu bag should be placed securely over the patients mouth and nose and suction if possible or allow secretions to drain out of the mouth.
  12. I too spend many hours at the computer when I study, balance is that my children are grown up. My mom-in-law lives with us and cooks like a dream, two woman in the kitchen really does not work. I have recently stopped my studies at vasity because I share my car with my daugther and rather wait another year until she is settled and has her own transport. My husband Leonard is happy that something is keeping me busy and I don't nag him.
  13. They call it sunny South Africa, and a land full of potential. We have two systems of health care. One is private nursing where the people of the country pay a certain fee every month and are able to enjoy medical benefits, clean linen and medical supplies are in abudance. Two is the state hospitals and some are in terrible conditions, minimal supplies and care. The Scope of Practice allows you as the nurse practitioner, Registered with the South African Nursing Council to freely practice your profession safely, you are enabled by these laws to perform many procedures within the state hospital and not in private practice. Male RN'S are not in abudance in South Africa, but we do have some. As for a teaching post there are many, the staff that are teaching are not qualified and the students battle to understand the outcome based learning, the salary depends on your qualification and each area may pay less or more. The cost of living here is not as high as in the USA, if you have U.S dollars you life will be made much easier, to settle. The crime rate is also extremely high in certain areas, but once you know the country and the people it would be a great experience, the people are trying to adjust to past apartheid errors which are many. It is my country and I love it.
  14. If you can't say no, try definitely not! practice in front of the mirrow
