Tidewater Community College
I think you'll do great taking both of the classes. Im sure it will be a challenge, but hey do what you can when you can. Quick question, if you register for the A&P1 class does one need to register for the Lab as well? Im trying to get my finances in order, I plan to take chemistry as well. TIA

What do you think aout BIO 141...hard, easy, challenging? I plan to take it in the Fall. To give myself a little boost, I borrowed A&P for Dummies from a friend. It's an intersting read thusfar.

Tidewater Community College
Ok, thanks for the info. I plan to apply in September as well. Prayerfully, I will have the 9 points needed by then. My plan is to complete Micro this summer then A&P I in the Fall. If that doesn't work then I will definitely be ready in 2012! I am just excited to have gotten this far. I've been talking about Nursing school for about 8 years now...never really pursued it! I am just thankful for the strength to complete the general AdmissionApplication for TCC:nurse: I can't wait to finally begin Nursing School! I am ready for the hard work and long nights:)

Transferring credits to TCC
Hi LilTray, I am unfamiliar with transferring credits; however, we have completed the same steps (applied, viewed webiner, submitted transcripts). My transcripts are enroute and I will be sure to post in this thread when my credits do transfer from Norfolk State University. According to the website, the credits that are to be transferred must come from an accreditated institution. I am sure B&S is accreditated and you won't have any problems. I may have a few more pre-reqs than you to complete before I apply, but Im hoping they accept as many credits as possible from my undergraduate degree/studies. So that I can apply sooner than later! Good luck and I hope you find the answer to your question. By the way, do you plan to attend the PreNursing Orientation? Even though I completed it online, I still want to visit the campus to talk face to face with someone.

Other second career students?
I am a second career student as well! I have a B.A in Public Relations and a M.A in Public Administration. For some reason, I've been working in the education field. Although I love children, it's not my passion. I began pursing my undergraduate degree as a Nursing major, then changed it...I sooo regret that decision I am 32 years young, married to a very loving and supportive hubby and no children. I have recently applied to a local community college and my transcripts are on the way! I am so excited about FINALLY taking the necessary steps to fulfill my dream. I know that I may have a few pre-reqs to complete before I actually make it into the Nursing Program, but I am ready! Nursing has always been my dream career! I knew in High School that I wanted to become a Nurse, but I left fear take over. However, I know that "I can do ALL things through Christ which strengthens me" Phil 4:13 Good luck to you all:D

Tidewater Community College
Hi All, I already know there's a thread for TCC; however, I decided to start a new one. I plan to apply in the fall. My application has been submitted and my transcripts are on the way I am totally excited. Is there anyone else applying this year? How is everyone funding their education? Due to my previous undergraduate degree, I have exhausted my financial aid. So, I will be on the payment plan God will work it out for me! Hope to hear from future TCC RNs Be Blessed guys...

Anyone waiting on acceptance letter from Tidewater Community College VA
Thanks for the reply. To 2bnurseforce1, I sent you another pm, not sure if it went through or not. I guess what I really want to know is if the "Counselor" is in the Nursing Department or not. I will give the school a call tomorrow. Thanks again

Anyone waiting on acceptance letter from Tidewater Community College VA
I have a quick question for those attending TCC. I hope you'll be able to help. I am interested in the RN program as a Second-Degree seeker. When I apply to the college, will the Nursing Department look over my transcripts and tell me which pre-requisites I need to take? My first degree is in Journalism, totally not nursing or medically related. However, I started my undergraduate years as a Pre-Nursing major. So I have taken Chemistry, Bio and some related Math at the University I attended. If you can help me, please let me know. Thank you in advance.

Medical Careers Institute VA Beach or Newport News??
Sorry, I am not familiar with the VB campus but I do know a little about the Newport News campus. Let me tell you that I attended an Open House there, last year and had NO idea that we were going to take the TEAS! I thought we were going to do a walk through and learn more about the school, what they have to offer. From what I remember, they briefly went over the programs and sent us to another room to take the TEAS. I was so ****** off because no one mentioned anything about taking a test. Mind you, we had to RSVP for the Open House and everything. I RSVP'ed well in advance. This was all done at the Newport News campus. My sister in law attended MCI Newport News campus for Medical Assisting and she loves it! Everyone she graduated with has a job and are doing very well!

Medical Careers Institute Richmond Campus
[color=gray]i attended open house today in newport news and i found [color=#808080]it to be rather interesting to say the least! [color=#808080] [color=#808080]while speaking to the representative on the phone before the "open house", she encouraged me [color=#808080]to bring all of my questions to the "open house". they started [color=#808080]with like a brief introduction (the school, accreditation, financial aid, etc) [color=#808080]and then we all broke off into groups [color=#808080]depending on your program of "interest". [color=#808080] [color=#808080]during group sessions, the director or associate director spoke very briefly about the program and then they sent us off to the next phase! unknowingly, the "next phase" was the teas test! we had no idea that they were going to test us, i was only there to get more information about the rn program, the school itself, etc! i am the type of person that need to study before a test so needless to say, i didn't do very well on the math portion! i hadn't seen geometry since the late 1990's! after the test, we had to take our scores to the front desk and that was it...i am sitting here just as confused about the school now than i was before i went to the "open house". [color=#808080] [color=#808080]personally, i believe it was more of a marketing tool to get people "in" rather than provide information and assist those who were truely undecided or with questions. [color=#808080] [color=#808080]good luck! i've decided that mci is not for me... [color=#808080] [color=#808080]

MCI Student RN Program
[color=gray]thank you for this information! i have yet to speak to anyone at mci about financial aid. [color=#808080]i plan to attend the open house tomorrow @ 10am! i have a complete list of questions for [color=#808080]them :) [color=#808080] [color=#808080]i definitely believe that mci is worth the price because it's an accelerated program. i will check [color=#808080]tomorrow and find out all of the financial details/issues. i am not really interested in sallie mae [color=#808080]but the monthly payment sound great :wink2: [color=#808080] [color=#808080]well, thanks again for the reply!

MCI Student RN Program
[color=gray]hi ilovemycoastie98! [color=#808080]thanks for responding! while i am glad to know that mci offers a payment plan, [color=#808080]i am not prepared to pay $1700 or more in monthly payments. at my undergrad [color=#808080]institution, payments were around $300 or a little more because payments were [color=#808080]started before the semester actually began. [color=#808080]i know the price differential is a factor [color=#808080]with mci however, that is too much money [color=#808080]for me to pay at this point. [color=#808080]i thought the payment plan was [color=#808080]different however, i am [color=#808080]going to have to look into [color=#808080]the community colleges for my [color=#808080]nursing education. [color=#808080]according to fafsa, i do not have any money left to fund another undergrad [color=#808080]education. god will make a way [color=#808080]thanks again

MCI Student RN Program
[color=gray]i see that mci has a payment plan for students [color=#808080] [color=#808080]i am a second degree seeker and used all financial [color=#808080]aid on my undergraduate degree! [color=#808080] [color=#808080]unless i receive a scholarship of some sort, i will [color=#808080]have to pay out of pocket:scrying: [color=#808080] [color=#808080]i am pleased to know that mci is one of the "rare" [color=#808080]schools in the area with a payment plan! i am going [color=#808080]to the open house this saturday to find out more [color=#808080]about the rn program:d [color=#808080] [color=#808080]my future sister in law attended mci for the [color=#808080]medical assisting program and loved it...however, [color=#808080]i hope the rn program is just as good...

Any word-- Hampton University??
Oh okay! I have a BA in Journalism/Public Relations :wink2: . My friends found jobs quickly...a lot of them had Nursing jobs before they graduated due to the assistance of their professors at HU. It's good to be in the company of those who not only care about your education but your career as well. I think you are on the right track :monkeydance: good luck again
-
Any word-- Hampton University??
Congratulations Epona:biggringi Being that I grew up in this area, I know plenty of people who attended HU and had nothing but good things to say about the education they received. What do you have a BS in? Well congrats again :nurse:and good luck

ideas for a outstanding letter to get in to nursing school
What I would do is search on google for a model, that you think is impeccable ofcourse, and follow it with your own verbage. I would also include my future goals as an RN and how the program will assist me in obtaining those goals. Use colorful words that exemplify your work ethic and elaborately discuss how you will remain scholarly while in the program. I've never written a letter to secure a spot in a nursing program (yet) but that's what I am going to do when my time comes :wink2: Good luck to you and I'm sure the other wonderful members of the board will offer excellent advice...as they always do:monkeydance: Be Blessed and good luck to you

Any Current MCI Students Out There?
While this is a public informative forum, I only wanted to share what I've heard about the RN program at MCI in Newport News, VA (which is subjective) being that I previously served as an Adjunct English Professor at the Institute. As I indicated, those were only the comments of someone I know who attended MCI as well as professional experience. I apologize if my post was unappreciated Good luck to you and Be Blessed
