  1. Nurseschoice.com only does 4 week assignments I'm told.:roll
  2. I did a 2 week per diem in June of this year. I too loved John C. Lincoln. Baptist was tough, very behind the times. The pt-nurse ratio was great at JCL. And the staff were great. Good Luck.
  3. My advice, don't do it. Just trust me. There are plenty of other options.
  4. I also left an assignment after 30 days. It was totally unsafe. 8pts was normal. Atleast half were totals, some fresh post-ops and usually 2 in restraints. And this was most nights I worked. I told my recruiter and the company talked to their management, but nothing changed. Finally, I told my recruiter some horrific stories the other nurses told me and she email them that day and told them I would not be returning. She said they would pay the fine because they would not put their employees in any unsafe enviornments. She found me a better assignment and I love it.
  5. We have a policy with certain criterias such as the K+ level, vital signs and so forth that have to be within certain limits. Also we have to have a doctors written order to go without telemetry. In most cases they dont wear but we can also monitor from the floor. If the test can not be portable a nurse has to go with the pt if they have a critical rythmn. Utimately if the doctor has all the correct information and they make the decision it is their responsibilty. Right now our biggest problem is if we give the pt a sedative to have CT's or MRI's a nurse has to be with that pt even if the test are 30 mins.
  6. I have worked with bronchitis and an inhaler in my pocket. Also got sick a few times but couldn't leave cause there was no one to take my pts. I will call in now if I feel what I have is contagious but like most I don't want to leave the floor short. Very hard to find others to work on our floor. Even now I have waited 5 months to see an ortho doc for a possible rotator tear in my shoulder. Worried about having to stay out for surgery. My appt is tomorrow and I finally realized it wasn't my responsibility to worry about staffing if I was out a few weeks.
  7. I have a very unerving experience. My mother in law died 6 years ago unexpectely at the age of 46. I have dreams about her as though she is alive but only my family can see her. I started to notice that when I dream about her someone I know would die the next day. This has happened to me atleast 5 times in the past 2 years. My G-mother, G-father, Uncle, Aunt, and a friend. It is very scary now when I dream about her. Especially the last time when my 10 year old was out of town with friends. The next day I was on pens and needles until I found out it was a lady who was my friend and my oldest childs teacher. She went to church with my mother and me for many years. Though I was sad about her dying I was relieved my child was fine. I believe she tries to prepare me because we have had so many deaths in our families in the last 7 years. But is it better not to know, especially when you dont know who it will be? Though, I am not scared during the dream, I am happy and relieved. I guess because she died so unexpectely she feels she needs to let me know.
