  1. That is scary. It’s also scary when kids have nowhere to go because schools are closed many of them starving and in abusive homes, or to be targeted with mandates and having to prove yourself because you are a minority (or otherwise) who is not vaccinated.
  2. Yes, because we are a majority white COUNTRY. Take a look at New York specifically though, because that is where these mandates are the strictest. Here are the demographics showing why these mandates are clearly targeting minorities. https://covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/vaccine-demographic-data
  3. Okay, so it isn’t okay to dehumanize them. Just wanted to make sure.
  4. I’ve seen a massive amount of posts here that espouse this viewpoint, using frustration in the name of tearing down fellow nurses. I fully support vaccines, but do not support any element of rhetoric that encourages dehumanizing those who choose not to get vaccinated. Is this dangerous viewpoint something we must now all believe in the name of “public health?” Of note, minorities are far less likely to get vaccinated than whites—so in New York, for example, where the unvaccinated are not allowed to engage in normal society, this is basically modern-day segregation. Are we, as nurses (the most trusted profession), propagating the rhetoric that helps these ideas become reality?
  5. The mandates assume minorities can’t think for themselves because they are getting vaccinated at lower rates than white people. New York City’s vaccine mandate, for example, will not allow many minorities from participating in normal society. It doesn’t matter which side someone is on, left or right. What matters is that when the government has control, that control can be abused - communist or fascist.
  6. So wait, the fact that minorities are getting vaccinated at a lower rate than whites means that the state is intentionally targeting them? Hm, well, since minorities are able to think for themselves just like white people, perhaps we should stop encouraging hate towards a group that has many diverse reasons for not getting vaccinated - considering that minorities vaccination rate is far lower than that of white people.
  7. By putting in place policies such as mandates that largely target minorities.
  8. Words can also lead to discrimination against minorities since they are getting vaccinated at far lower rates than whites.
  9. Where is your evidence that minorities are less able to get vaccinated than white people, that white people are the only ones against vaccines? I’d encourage you to research why Kim Janey said what she said about vaccine passports (she’s black ?) Believe it or not, some minorities are able to think for themselves (this is a very difficult concept for people who think that all minorities are completely unable to take care of themselves without government intervention). Which is why when governors prohibit mask mandates (making such a thing OPTIONAL, not disallowing masks) they’re preventing discrimination.
  10. See, the problem is that that kind of discrimination, “campgrounds” of sorts for people choosing not to get vaccinated, will most certainly HURT people, which is why this kind of talk should not be allowed. Again, with minorities getting vaccinated at far lower rates than whites, supporting such a “rant” is dangerous.
  11. Please read what I said again, I said “no” problem - I’m aware you have no problem discussing it, hence the hypocrisy when you are supporting the idea that we can just “rant” about whatever we want without considering the repercussions. All minorities are being targeted because they are getting vaccinated at far lower rates than whites.
  12. Isn’t it odd that you have no problem discussing bullying while supporting a post that encourages a “dystopian fantasy” that targets a group that is largely minority?
  13. Regardless of their reasons, they are getting vaccinated at far lower rates than whites, and no one in that group should be a victim of this kind of rhetoric in the name of a “frustrated rant.”
  14. I know this may be difficult to process for those who like to recite a few facts and then believe they are sooo much more intelligent than everyone around them…but I can COMPLETELY SUPPORT VACCINES while condemning rhetoric that encourages hate and division. No one on either side should engage in such a dangerous “rant.” Again, minorities are being vaccinated at a far lower rate than whites. PLEASE tell me how you can spew such hate towards those not vaccinated, when the majority of the people not vaccinated are not even the people you’re pretending and lying they are.
  15. If you support OP, you’re either supporting the segregation of minorities, because they are getting vaccinated at far lower rates than whites, or you’re trying to target a relatively small proportion of whites who are choosing not to get the vaccine. Just because you can recite the science doesn’t mean you can continue such a dangerous rhetoric.
  16. So you’re saying you’re only trying to target the “anti-vaxxers” who are white, even though there is a lower percentage of them than minorities who are choosing not to vaccinate?
  17. Just because we know the science doesn’t mean we can continue this dangerous rhetoric, when minorities are getting vaccinated at a much lower rate than whites. We may know the science, but I don’t think we fully understand the politics of this situation. This kind of “ranting” needs to stop.
  18. So, with minorities being vaccinated at a rate far lower than whites, are you saying you speak for all black people here when you say this segregation “means nothing” to you? For some reason I don’t think that the many minorities in this country choosing not to vaccinate would agree with you there…I think this would affect them QUITE a bit. Again, this is very dangerous rhetoric.
  19. Ah, clever. Now stop continuing a rhetoric that would disproportionately harm minorities, as they are getting vaccinated at a much lower rate than whites. This is a disgusting thread.
  20. Yes. Labeling dangerous speech as a rant doesn’t make it any less dangerous. Does anyone realize that minorities are getting vaccinated at a much lower rate than whites? This is the talk of segregation. STOP NOW.
  21. No, you cannot talk about such a dangerous idea and not understand how it could eventually become reality - we are nurses and our opinions are valued by the public. We cannot talk like this.
  22. This is not just a harmless rant, this is dangerous and AllNurses should not allow it. Yes, I empathize with the frustration. And sure, maybe there is an argument for leaving science deniers who are endangering the general public in a dystopian “campgrounds,” though the same could be said about other groups of people that we choose to care for as nurses. But once you allow this kind of power over one group, it will soon enough be used to segregate other groups as well. This is truly a dangerous rhetoric and it should not even be entertained as a frustrated “rant.”
  23. The craziest thing any of us can do is believe that our dream nursing job really exists. I applied for remote positions for about 9 months (only 3 years of nursing experience, 2 in the hospital and 1 in the clinic) despite everyone telling me it wasn’t likely. I finally got a work-from-home position at my dream organization. It’s medication refill - I work evenings from home, no weekends or holidays. 40 hours a week. I honestly think if you just believe that there’s something better out there, you’re doing more than the vast majority of people. Don’t let fear control you!!
  24. Fellow nurses - I need help picking a specialty. I have job offers in both podiatry and endoscopy and need to accept one very soon. I currently work at a Level I Trauma Center at a large urban teaching hospital. I work 8-hour day shift on a busy neuro unit. The constant Vocera calls, call lights, patient/family abuse of nurses, and physical and emotional exhaustion without proper breaks is getting to me. Im going to take a massive pay cut as both the podiatry and endoscopy jobs offer considerably less. I am a single mom as well. The benefits at the endoscopy position may be slightly better, but the podiatry position is offering me a $2k bonus. I’m a wound resource nurse and the podiatry position will be mostly wound care, which sounds lovely. However, endoscopy has always been extremely interesting to me as I love working with technology and patient education. Apparently we don’t get to take breaks regularly at the podiatry position which is a little concerning, and it’s 8-1700, whereas endoscopy varies anywhere from 530-1830. I’m also not super great at IV insertion but then again that’s based on nursing school and I’m assuming I could improve that skill with hard work? What job would you choose? Why?
