  1. Is Excelsior recognized in all 50 states?
  2. What bridge program are you enrolled in? This is the first I've heard of a Rn bridge program for RTs. I start an RT program this fall. I really wanted to do nursing first but the waiting is too long and I have a family to support.
  3. I'm interested in relocating to Memphis after I'm done with respiratory program. I know that I will more than likely apply to nursing school. I've completed all of the pre-reqs but Respiratory accepted me into the program and nursing has a waiting list here. How's the pay in Memphis? The Cost of living doesn't seem to be too expensive. I'm a single parent so I'm looking for somewhere to sette down and buy a home. On the coast now, real estate is robbery! I've heard conflicting information about RT pay but I was hoping some of you may have some insight on the field, hospitals to apply to and the benefits: tuition reimbusment, sign-on bonuses -if any, and areas to live in.
  4. Does anyone have a real idea of what starting RT's make? I'm starting the program in August and as one person stated earlier, what the salary sites say the pay is and whar people tell me it is different so I'd appreciate the insight if anyone knows so I can make a change of major if necessary. My first class is Aug 24. 2006. I too at first was all nursing but its so hard to get in and so few slots and too many applicants. I'm thinking of just doing nursing later after completing my rt program. Is there a niche for a nurse who was an RT?
  5. Never mind mpo = my personal opinion...sometimes I read to fast and the words aren't truly sinking in.
  6. This might sound slow but what is "mpo"? Also thank you for the encouragement. I thought of doing RT to start and later pick up nursing...what type of specialty as far as nursing would be a Rt prior to nursing prepare me for?
  7. Hi all, Replying to RN or RE has me addressing my own dilemma :) . I'm currently completing preqs for nursing but as you all know those same preqs apply to most allied health programs. I've been accepted to the Respiratory Therapy program that begins this fall. Nursing is what I'd been working towards but I'm afraid of wasting to much time trying to get accepted to a program. I'm a single parent and I have two kids to care for. Some friends say I'm settliing if I switch to RT instead of pursuing RN but I see it as being realistic. I'm interested in both professions. I have an okay GPA but there are others with stellar GPAs that I'd be completing with. I admit I am one about the money since its a single income family for me. I've been researching both fields over the internet but I want some real-world opinions. I'd appreciate any response regarding the pay, advancement and longevity of both professions. I think of maybe completing the RT program and pursuing RN later after I'm more secure. Either choice equals two years of school, respiratory therapy would award me an associate's and with Nursing a bachelor's degree depending on the programs I apply to. Thank you in advance for assisting me.:thankya:
  8. What does your heart tell you? Now, what does your bank account say? You have all this experience doing something you obviously love or you wouldn't be so conflicted. Is the real estate market stable? Sure the pay may be great in the beginnng but that's all based on how well you sell. I don't know your family situation but how will it affect that? Sometimes our dreams and reality don't mesh. Do what's best for you overall. I mean there must be some RN programs that are accelerated or that would award you advance standing. There's a huge nurse shortage and you seem to be dedicated to a profession you enjoy, so please weigh your decision carefully. We need nurses like you.
  9. Thank you for giving us our own forum. I recently finished a CNA program in May at the local community college here. I was a CNA back in 1998 as well. I joined the military and my license expired. I'm done serving my country and knew I wanted to embark upon the medical field so I'm a CNA again. This is the perfect job due to the flexibility and insight you gain while going to college. I start a Respiratory Therapy program in the fall of this year. I'd been working toward nursing but respiratory was always my first interest.
  10. Could some one please reply to my posts around 06/18/2006 re: USA ? Thanks
  11. Why are people reacting so harshly to this post? She's curious about what her finanical situation will be once she has completed her education. Personally, I'm a single parent of two who also would love to know what type of pay I'll receive once I'm done with school. I'm currently a CNA (pay isn't great but the schedule is flexible for school) and I enjoy it. It's about more than money. You do have to love the job and helping people but please check in with reality. Due to the current economy and rising costs of living such as rent, mortgage, childcare, utliities, and groceries, most people can't afford to just pick a career that they love - you need a career that pays. Your finanical situation may afford you the ability to just be a nurse because you love it and the finanical compensation is not a determining factor. For me, versatile positions, flexible shifts, benefits and a long-term career attract me as well as the money does. Honestly I do want the most money I can get since I'll be spending more time at work then at home. If that's a crime, judge me guilty.
  12. Hi, I'm interested in Troy as well. Is there a priority acceptance system in place for instate students over outofstate students?
  13. U South Al RN2B, Could you enlighten me on your experience at USA? How's the schedule with clinicals and testing? Thanks
  14. Thank you for the info. How do you like your nursing program? What' your daily class schedule like, clinicals etc.
  15. Hi, my enlistment with the Navy ended in April. I'm currently in school finishing my prereqs for nursing. I'm a single parent of two children ( 9 and 11). I'm so tired:o of Mississippi and can't bear to trifle with another hurricane. Any suggestions on cities or colleges to check out in the St. Louis or surrounding areas. My best friend lives there but she has no kids so i was hoping some moms or really great aunts could assist me with some advice. I'm looking for a BSN program since I already have an Associate of Arts degree in general studies and am max'd out on receving any aid at a community college so a 4yr college is the only practical solution since I could receive aid there.
  16. I'm currently taking A&P I and Micro in an acelerated summer session. It is hard and I have two kids. I study everyday. This is what I wanted and nothing worth something is easy. I'm not a dumb person but this is my second go round with A&P. I overloaded myself this Spring with 3 other classes as well. I had an "A" and two B's in the others and failed A&P because I was so frustrated and stopped going to class because I waited too late to withdraw. I'm usually great under pressure and excel but I overextended myself. I'm actuall enjoying Micro when I thought I'd dread it and A&P is a little easier since I know what I have to do and I have a better instructor. Some may disagree, but a great instructor makes a difference in any course.
  17. Hi, I'm taking Microbiology as well. My class started May 30 and will end June 28 I go to class from 1 pm - 4:45 Mon- Thursday. I'm also taking A& P I from 0815 - 1200 Mon- Thursday. I'll start A& P II July 5th. I had my first micro test. I made an "A" but I worked hard for it but my instructor is great. The next test is a openbook test that covers 3-4 chapters. You'd think it was an easy grade but the way the text is written and our required purchased lab notes you easily become confused. The text book we're using is Introduction to Microbiology, 2nd edition by Ingrahamn & Ingraham.
  18. Hi I'm a perspective USA nursing student. I'm finishing my pre-reqs at MGCCC in Gulfport. I have general questions about the program. I'm applying for the Spring 2007 semester. What's the schedule like? Clinicals. I'm a single parent of two so I need as much information I can get so I can know what to expect and what I arrangements I need to make. Someone please reply. I'm considering just attending an LPN program because the pay doesn't seem to be any different. I've been accepted to MGCCC - JD's LPN program. For some who may not know MGCCC is Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Jeff Davis Campus in Gulfport, MS.
  19. Hi, I was recently accepted to the LPN class at JD beginning this Fall. What type of pay can I expect to make and how did you like the program? I will appreciate all advice.
  20. Hi everyone. :welcome: I'm currently attending MGCCC - JD campus. I have been accepted to the LPN program that starts this Fall. I've heard that LPNS aren't really making that much money. Recently I was hired by Memorial for the position of a multi-skilled tech which is a cna with added skills. I'm almost finished with my prereqs for USA. I'm in summer school now completing A&P I and Microbiology. I'll also take A&P II in the second summer session. During the fall I will complete Biology, Chemistry and Philosophy. I have everything else done and am just waiting for the fall to being so I can send my application in to USA with my transcripts showing that my classes are in progress. I was a CNA like 5 years ago so I've retaken that course again to recertify for my license. The nurse manager on the floor where I work said that because of my position as a multiskill tech that I'll gain great experience that will help once I enter nursing school. I wonder what the pay difference is between a LPN and an RN since I was reading a few threads about it. If I wait and I'm accepted to USA and start in the coming Spring - the program is only 15 months. I need some advice. I mean I really want my BSN degree and also I have an associate's degree so I can no longer receive financial aid at a community college so I would be paying for the LPN or ADN program out of pocket vs. attending a 4 yr college where I could receive assistance. Please drown me in advice:idea:
