  1. Hey Ya'll: I just finished 4 semesters of intense studying/prereqs for the RN program at MSCC TN. YEAH! I only had micro to go, which I'd planned on taking during RN prog., had I gotten in. I didn't get accepted as my overall points were not what they could have been. My 3.2 GPA and HESI score of (79%)wasn't high enough to give me entrance. I got a B in A&PI, but barely passed A&PII w/ a C, which was a bit disappointing... (Family emerg. caring for my disabled hubby, running kidz everywhere, etc., took quite a bit of study time away this last semester.) BUTTTTT! I am not giving up!!! I am a 53 yr. old mother of 10 (2 still in the nest) and granny to 6 1/2. (one in the oven.) Anyway... I am not giving up my dream to become an RN someday. I am applying for LPN training, classes beginning Sept. 4, 07,... meanwhile, I'd like to become a CNA first, but only up until LPN training begins. I realize how much intense study goes with the RN path and I appreciate RNS more now, than I ever have. I don't believe I know enough yet, having never worked in Healthcare and if I am going to be one of the BEST RN's, I feel becoming a CNA, or LPN first would better prepare me for the RN path. I am looking forward to becoming a caregiver, in any capacity. God Bless All!
  2. Hey Megan: I am at Motlow in my last semester of prereqs and waiting for acceptance letter. 8 actual class days to go! I have Judy Taylor for A&PII. She really knows her stuff. Congratulations!
  3. Hey CuriousMe: Love that quote! So Inspiring! Especially for me... (self esteem hasn't been all that great in the past for many reasons I won't go into here.) I have 10 wonderful children, (only two still in the nest, 14 and 10) and 6 Precious Grands, (always wanted to be a Nurse.) Just finished w/ A&PI w/ a B, wanted an A, but am Happy w/ my B! (My A&P Instructor was Great!) No more Algebra! Yeah! Going forward next semester which begins Jan. 16 for me, w/ A&PII and Eng. Comp.II, taking an EMT class in Summer. Then I'll be finished w/ prereqs. I will, of course, need to take Micro. and Nursing Math, which I can take during Nursing Prog., which I'm hoping to start in Fall 07. (Studying over Holiday for HESI.) If you are curious, you might visit safekidzz.com and see what I've been up to. Wrote a children's Safety Resource, which I'm hoping will be pub. this yr., "The Magical Dolphins Safety Adventure." Recieved many great reviews from Teachers, Principals, a Pediatrician, and a few RN's. which I plan to place on back cover, once pub. (motivation: some not so good childhood, teen exp.) Well... Heres to All the Nursing & Pre-Nursing Students and especially to allnurses.com. You Can Do IT!!! If I can w/ a GPA 3.75 so far  (a one who has been called brainless most of my life... anyone can!) I love this site. God Bless the creators! The info., links, sites posted on various threads has helped me tremendously w/ my studying. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
  4. Hey guys! Just finished A&PI w/a B! Wanted an A but am Happy w/ my B! No more ALGEBRA... thank God! I finally beat the Algebra Monster! Hey Y'all, if I can do this, anybody can! I am a 53 yr. old Mother of 10, Grandmother of 6 and... (I do admit, I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed, but I've studied HARD and earned every bit of my 3.75 GPA so far.) On to A&PII next semester along w/ English CompII. Hope I get the same AWESOME A&P Instructor. She's Dynamite! After next semester, I'll need to take an EMT course then (Micro. during Nursing Prog.) Then I will be finished w/ the prereqs! I am hoping to get in Fall 07. Congrats to all!! YOU CAN DO IT!!! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SAY DIE! :yelclap: :smiley_ab
  5. Am taking A&PI. My Instructor is great. Am not as young as I used to be, am struggling a bit, w/ taking AlgebraII as well. I am 52, have ten wonderful children and 6 grands. Three still in the nest. Am excited to be finally in an A&P class. Can use as many links on A&P as I can get. Thanks and good luck to all.
  6. Fear not Dearheart...you will do just fine. From my oint of view this sort of thing takes a bit time. I am not a Nurse yet, (starting my prereqs. in a few wks., but have (nursed) many children thru the years. Now this isn't intended to be funny, but I know after raising 8 (2 to go) and them all getting sick at various times (and usually came down with the same thing at the same time) that I can only share how I reacted both during and after each episode. It's not an easy thing to deal with when the cleaner-upper has a weak stomach...With my first few children...I just joined right in! But over time I sort of got used to it. I've personally learned to just tune that smell out, (It's the odor that really gets ya) by thinking of something more pleasant, till the cleanup was done. I'm sure everyone has their own ways of dealing w/ the nasty stuff, but it's all part of signing the dotted line I guess. You just have to learn to deal w/ it. I'd love to hear how others in the Nursing community have overcome this not so easy part of being a Nurse, who also share in the weak stomach thing. Peace, Faith
  7. As I recall, when I left Miami, the state of this Mother's heart unfortunately was filled with greed, as apparently she had sued this lighter Co. that the child was burned by. The mother was, as far as I could tell, also hiding this child away, for she feared someone would get close to him and get the funds that were going to be his once he reached legal age. This is a very tragic story and I apologize if the sharing of it has upset anyone out there, but I guess the true stories are the hardest to accept sometimes. Before I left there, I tried to help this mother to look to the LOrd and not the money, but she wasn't listening. Today I could not say what became of this family, for it was many yrs. ago. This woman was someone I had befriended for a short time, but my circumstances changed and I saw that I personally couldn't help the situation any longer. I recall the HRS was investigating her around the time I moved out of state. This type of thing makes you pray more, for sadly there are many children all over this world who are suffering for one reason or another. May God Bless and protect the children. Peace, Faith
  8. His mother, unfortunately was quite flipped out/unstable. I haven't seen them in a very long time as this was in Miami. I was sad for this child as I saw his mother's state and couldn't do very much for her or get thru to her. My heart was broken for this boy. I lost touch when I moved to Tn. about 7 or 8 yrs. ago, so I wouldn't know how things turned out for them. I only pray this boy is well and happy and remembers good things that have happened in his life. Peace, Faith
  9. I am not an RN yet, but am working toward it, beginning with my preqreqs. Jan. 18. 2006. I desire to work at Vanderbilt's Burn unit once I graduate, for I had a friend yrs. ago who's young son was burned very badly over about 80 % of his body, due to a lighter exploding in his hand. (in a closet, where he was sitting) Whenever I would visit him, it would make me weep. He was starved for human contact, as his mother basically kept him hidden away, due to the grotesque look the severe burns had left him with. He had no face or ears. His skin was like leather. I would just hold him (7), while tears streamed down his face, and tell him he was the kindest person I'd ever met and that it's not what's on the outside, but his beautiful heart that really mattered most. I always saw that he needed to hear those words of comfort... This life exp. left me with a deep desire to help other children, who've been badly burned, due to some horrible circumstance, in any way I can. God willing, as a Nurse I will be able to care for and comfort other burn victims. Peace, Faith
  10. Hey Erolen: I am currently enrolled at Motlow amd will begin my prereqs. Jan 18. It was not difficult enrolling and after meeting a few of the Nursing Instructor staff, I believe it will be a wonderful exp. getting my RN AAS thru Motlow. I am a 52 yr. old mother of 10 (2 left at home) Grandmother of 6. I think you should check out Motlow's RN program if that's a consideration. Just call their admissions office and tell them what you want to do and they will take care of everything and help you get started. After admissions you will meet w/ the Nursing Instuctor staff member who will then give you the required courses aside from any developmental or prereq's you may need to take before actually entering their RN program. Hope this helps somewhat. Peace, Faith
  11. Dear Child, No. You are never too old... unless you think you are. I am 52, have raised 8 of 10 children (2 still in the nest) and am starting my prereqs. at a Community College Jan. 18 to prepare for an RN AAS Spring 2007. I guess I'll be almost 55 by the time I enter my first actual RN job. I think you should be proud to have chosen motherhood first, for you recieved a great deal of exp./training w/ raising your children. Not to mention the numerous Blessings! (I'm sure you are aware of that) Motherhood is the Highest calling in my book. You will do great! And so will I. Nursing to me is a close second to raising children, just different details. Same stress. Peace, Faith
  12. I have to admit...I am still a bit nervous concerning all the Math (Algebra),Anatomy, Physiology etc., my Prereqs., but I have found a lot of help through this thread and study materials I've come across. I have been out of the "School study mode" since 69 and have raised 8 of 10 children(2 still in the nest-9 and 13), but want to do this with all my heart, so please keep me in your prayeys y'all. I have a small voice recorder, which I have just started using and am beginning to learn my Anatomy basics that way. I found Holes Anatomy online, but would like to ask if there is another I should be checking out, (trying to get a bit of a head-start). My biggest concern upon deciding to become a Nurse was thinking, "What if I go thru all this studying and fail my RN entrance exam...? For now I will keep pluggin and just try and do the best I can. I'm not a spring chicken anymore, but do have the intense drive to not give up! *Correction* I had my dates mixed up, am starting pre-Nursing courses Jan. 18, 2006 at a local Community College and will hopefully begin the RN AAS in Spring 2007. Since reading these threads and hearing all of the intense and great info./advise, I am starting to relax more. I know a lot of you out there have been where I am now, so that helps tremendously. You all are SO NEEDED! Thanks for being there for all of us "beginners"...and God Bless! I guess the biggest words I personally need to learn for now are... RELAXXX and Breathe! Peace, Faith
