Hello. I am trying to figure out if anyone knows or has experience with being a military spouse and being a travel nurse. Being more recently married, I was able to adopt my husbands home of record due to military/federal relief clause where I could get a drivers license, register my cars, and claim a TN address despite never living there. His home of record is reflected for tax purposes as TN with the military even though he has not lived in TN for 8 years. When I start traveling it seems like I will not be eligible for tax free stipends due to us moving… they are temporary moves and we are not paying rent anywhere else apart from the place we will be living in, correct? I mean since my DL matches TN and vehicle registration should I just start paying his mother a far rent price? That kind of seems dirty, but wasn’t sure if anyone else knows or has experience with such a situation. Does the travel/housing stipends really make THAT much difference when they are tax free? Ohhhh I think I was not very clear when first made my post. I do not work with this other new grad. For more of a back story, this is a friend back from nursing school who does not have any emergency experience, but wants to get a position in the emergency department. She is incredibly smart and great at what she does, but I cautioned her if she wanted to go into the ER that a big part is learning how to pick her battles because she had a very dramatic environment in her senior clinical rotation. She asked for examples of what I meant and I gave her some from my experience, but I wondered if anyone on here had any additional examples or words of wisdom that I may be able to pass on. With that being said, I did integrate everything said by y'all prior to this post in a conversation with her, thank you!

. Thank you for your reply and your well wishing in my new journey! You presented great guidelines that I find to work quite effectively as well. I am hoping to get more examples to pass along where nurses have recognized it is important to not challenge a fellow nurse or provider (any in the ER especially)? While working I just mind my own business and don't take things personally, however I am trying to take perspective of others who experience the opposite and give the other new grad examples of situations where it is important to just let something go.

Hey all, New grad here who works in the ER. I am trying to inform another new grad about if she wants to work in the ER that she needs to learn to not pick fights with everyone. She is very sharp and detailed in her nursing practice, but has a history of challenging a lot of people while working. I am trying to describe examples and reasons why picking your battles/fights with other staff and doctors is important in the emergency environment. Anyone have extra stories or reasoning? Thank You!

For those on the waitlist, I definitly know people who got into both OHSU and Linfield and have chosen OHSU, but just have not rejected Linfield's offer, yet. So definitly don`t lose hope or anything!

Hey Amy! I applied too, I hope they get letters out soon because I would just love to have piece of mind about where to go for nursing school. Except I'm definitly nervous about how much scholarship money they might dish out. I definitly need to come up with 30K somehow if I want to go there. Im on the waitlist for OHSU, but am definitly not banking on it. Have you heard anything about admissions scholarships there for the ABSN program? I tired talking to them about it and they said basically no to any form of scholarships, but then you hear from years past that people in the ABSN program get them, so I don't know what to think. Perhaps they'd rather under promise and over deliver.

Linfield's admissions website says application decisions are to be mailed by April 1st (subject to change). So I am not expecting anything for a while.

Well goodness I definitly hope so! Because it would be very unfortunate to have to turn down admissions due to finances!

University of Arkansas or Arizona?

I feel you with the at least knowing part, then there would be some piece of mind with either accepting that the school just wasn`t the right fit/what they were looking for in their ridiculously high standards and applicant diversity. I`m hoping to be waitlisted at least... or best case scenario, accepted, but I feel like you never know with schools like this. I also applied to Linfield, which I feel really good about getting in and would feel really surprised if i didn`t, but paying for that school would be a HUGE barrier to potentially overcome. Thats an additional big draw to OHSU, price being more do-able. Linfield isn`t really upfront about financial assistance for the accelerated program and people who have already graduated. Loans arent worth it.

I am a little confused about that dawnneFL1 rejection, because they said "great letters of reference", however the just plain ABSN program doesn`t accept letters of reference. I wonder if she or he applied to one of the accelerated to graduate student programs?

Ahh! Gotcha! At least it isn`t spam. Glad you knew what it was. And no I didn`t ask, If I don`t hear anything a week from now then i`ll be bothering them, but I am sure they have received plenty of calls asking the past couple days, so I am just going to find patience. I presume though by Friday we will have an idea.

I received a weird email this morning which prompted to me call IT and admissions. It said "URGENT- OHSU Pin Notification- Open Immediately" So I called IT and they said it came from a legit email that they have for the student portal on campus, but then I called admissions and she said it sounded weird and had no knowledge about it. Now I find myself in a limbo whither or not to see what it is, but it does look very strange. Admissions said they haven`t sent any emails off yet though, so everyone is still in the waiting game. Hopefully by the end of this week we will know!
