single umbilical artery
My son had a 2-vessel cord also, he's perfectly healthy. Also when I was pregnant it was planned, I had very good prenatal care (even took preggo vitamens before conceiving) and was middle class. He'll be 5yrs old on friday! I want you to know that many babies are perfectly fine w/the two vessels. I was worried during the pregnancy, but the amnio was normal and the only compliation was that my amniotic fluid level went down and they had to induce a couple weeks early.

2 vessel cord
Thanks, smiling blue eyes, I also appreciate the link. I've been feeling sentimental and reflecting on his birth and the cord issue came back to me. He was induced 2 weeks early due to low amniotic fluid levels but otherwise no problems and his amnio was perfect.

2 vessel cord
I had a 2 vessel cord when pregnant with my son. He's five this month and very healthy. I was wondering how commen this is and how commen is it for the baby to have no ill effects? I felt so blessed when all was well!

How much for your soul? (This is very long.)
slovenly minion?? I took on a management position because no one else was applying for it (after 2yrs). We were about to hire a person no one trusted for this position. So, I said -why not ? Maybe I can make a difference. We are pulled in both directions. There's a great deal of work and responsibility. Also, we work right alongside with our employees and often stay late to finish our "other" work. There are many classes and meetings to attend and so much paperwork. I often have no time to take a meal break at work, yet I cover the lpns and everyone else when they eat or smoke. Don't label all managers and especially as slovenly and soul-less. You seem so bitter..why don't you become a manager then you will see what it's really like!

Increase in I&D's in the South?
Here out west (southeast arizona) we have the same thing, people from all walks of life. We're also seeing an increasing number of Cdiff patients from home.

Where have all the experienced nurses gone?
In my opinion, an experienced medsurg nurse is worth her/his weight in gold. I've been a medsurg nurse for 11years, prior to that I was a patient care tech, prior to that a medic. A medsurg nurse has a wide knowledge base, must be a master of organization and able to concentrate while fielding a myriad of distractions. Hats off to all those who love medsurg!!! And yes, I know I'm tooting my own horn too!:w00t:

'rotting' not for weak stomachs...
I don't know what can help, maybe try calling adult protective services? Suggest hospice or pain management of some sort? How does the family seem to feel about her pain? It seems cruel to let her suffer. Please keep us updated..what an awful thing for a human being to endure.
