How does your tele and ER work together?
I see by all the replies we are all in the same boat. I work in the ER and find that many times I am greeted with hostility from the floor nurses. I do believe that this is from a lack of understading on how it is in the ER. It is NOT personal when we send pts. up. We dont know whats going on upstairs any more than the floornurses know whats up with us. And even if we do know, what can we do? We are being told to get the patients up! It would actually make for an easier day to keep the same pts. all day. Instead of the constant turnover. So please dont take it personal. I know that it seems that at times we are sending up everyone at once. I find that this happens a lot with the physicians as they are trying to disposition all their patients before they go off shift. It really has nothing to do with nursing. Believe me we are not treated special anymore than you floor nurses. Lets face it we all work very hard and dont get half the credit we deserve. We ALL need to remember it is NOT personal. Its management who will need to look into a smoother transition possibilities. In the meantime we are all just doing what were told.:roll

Tele or med-tele holds in the ER...
Our Hospital actually brings in nurses from upstairs to take care of the holds if there are more than a couple. We try to move them to an area where they are all together. This makes it much easier on everyone. For the unit secretaries as well. The way that the floor orders things, and the way we do it in the ER are totally different. :roll

do any of you work in anything other than ltc as an LPN?
I dont know whats its like in Virginia, because I am in AZ. Ihave been working in the er for 8 years. However the hospital is phasing all LPNS out. We can keep our jobs but as we leave we are not being replaced. I for one have returned to school. They have finally managed to force me back into school after 14 years! Which will be a good thing eventually. Good Luck!

Thanks for the great info. Do you happen to know the hours per week? Is it a monday through friday deal? I originally went through Maricopa skills center for my LPN. So I know what you mean about nothing transferring over. Thats where Im at now. I still need to get most of my pre-reqs done. I believe I am going to do University of Phoenix's Lpn to Bsn program. This will take about 3 years. But please let me know about the hours if you know. Thx....:rotfl:

Stigma against Psych.
Im glad your interested! Someone has to do it. Psych was actually my favorite rotation, although I didnt wish to stay. I found it to be way interesting. As for the stigma. Dont give it a second thought. I work in the Er. I find it to be a world unto its own. You are seperated from the rest of the hospital. People dont understand just how it all works. And although we dont care for patients in the same manner as the floors we still do a very necessary job. Psych nursing is specialized. I think any stigma would be from people who would look down on you because its not in the mainstream. Be proud, people need you just as much as the rest of us. Find pride in doing something that most cant or wont do.

ER bashing...where is the love??
I also am an ER nurse. Its nice to hear we are not the only ER that gets attitude from the floors. i guess its an across the board thing. What I dont get is why the floor takes it personal when they are getting berated with admits. If they are busy its because we are busy. Its not a personal vendeta. When the floor is full they are full. The ER doesnt close because we are full. Cant we all just get aong?
