i work in a ltc facility and i had this adorable resident, she was a tiny southern belle who loved her candy....well her son had brought her in a huge easter basket, she ate some before going to be that night and we put the rest in her dresser. low and behold when i was making rounds later that night she must have decided she wanted more candy and took her gown off to avoid having her personal alarm set off and there she stood as naked as can be by her dresser stuffing her face full of easter candy..it took everything i had not to laugh out loud in fear of scaring her..... another time she and her roomate were sitting by the nurses station one evening and they both had sticks coming out of their mouths, i walked over to ask were they had found the suckers at, and they each pulled out a toothette with a priceless confused face and said "on the desk honey, but you know this sucker doesn't taste so good":rotfl: it was so cute......i guess you can be addicted to candy at any age

$14.00 an hour, 3 years experience(same facility)...their starting rate now is $11.50....in ohio:p

:flamesonb i am sorry and forgive me if i sound rude, but he is just doung his job, these people need help taking care of themselves and he is helping them. that is very respectable, and not to be taken as perverted. that insults me that you would think that caring for another human being(whether it be bathing them or feeding them) is perverted, or sexual in anyway. i have been an aide for 3 years, and i take that to offense. i don not look at it in any way as sexual, you are helping people in need, they are ashamed as it is that they have to be cleaned up, or fed by someone else, snd it is so appalling that some crazy jealous girlfriend is making insane accusations about their care. grow up:angryfire

I have been working at my ltc facility for 3 years now with pretty much the same staff since i have started.....i really want to work there as an lpn (i am comfortable there) but i am afraid it would be weird going from stna to lpn and having the same co-workers.....PLEASE help!!! any suggestions would greatly be appreciated:rolleyes:

i am an stna/lpn student right now, and i work at a ltc facility for 3 years now, i absolutely love it, and i totally agree with you that the residents do not get the care they deserve. most ltc fac. are short staffed and the employees are overworked. it is so unfair to the residents. i feel though that as long as i give them the care and respect they deserve i know i am making a difference, you can't change other people, but at least you can make a difference. i want to work in a hospital also, but i feel you lose the sense of relationship that you build with your patients in a hospital., they are in and out so fast (which is good for them), but i love getting to know my residents and their families, you become part of their family and that is really special to me. I feel i will always work ltc, i can't see myself anywhere else, and everyday you can just do what you can and you can leave knowing you made a difference:)
