- Good reads for Ped Nurses
Hello! I am a new grad who just accepted a position on a stepdown pediatric unit, starts in 2 months. In that time I would like to prepare myself for the position and find good books to read on what the life of pediatric nurses are like, what to expect and so on. Are there any books that you found helpful in your experience, what do you recommend? Thank you!- Help Scheduling NCLEX
I completely agree w ^^. I graduated 2nd week of December and took a break from nursing until after the holidays. I started studying 2nd week of January and had scheduled my exam for the end of January so I literally had 2 weeks to study. I was so close to rescheduling because i didn't "feel ready", but like immigrantnurse said, you never really feel fully prepared. I didn't end up rescheduling because the next opening date was the 2nd week of February and 2 weeks of studying was torture enough I knew I couldn't do 2 more weeks of nonstop studying- its so draining. Anyways, my advice is to just reschedule it to a closer date if you feel like you're doing well and are confident enough. If not, then just use the 3rd week to go over things you missed. Overall don't be so hard on yourself during this time, you'll do well wether you take it the 8th or the 15th. Good luck!- CHLA 2019 RN Residency Program

@hritchie13 1. I found out about my offer exactly one week after my second interview. I had also asked them during my interview by when they would have decisions and they did tell me one week, so definitely ask your unit. 2. During my second interview with the nurse leaders and education manager they brought up the fact that the RN program's schedule will be ALL over the place. They said you mainly follow your preceptor's schedule but will also be doing didactic classes from time to time. They said you can be working days one day and nights the other. They also mentioned that you may absolutely not take any time off during the program. Lastly, my offer letter stated 3 12 hour shifts with no specification of day/nights, my guess is that it'll be determined once the 22 weeks are done. Good luck on your second interview! I think that most of your questions will be answered by your unit managers, but if they don't, definitely ask them, they'll inform you better than I can lol Good luck!- CHLA RN Residency September 2019

Anyways, i interviewed with 5West Stepdown phone call lasted exactly 20 mins.- CHLA RN Residency September 2019
- Should I accept this offer?
Thanks so much for all of your responses! I went with my gut feeling and declined the offer! Good news is, I was able to land another job at a small hospital to begin my nursing career! Yay! ?- CHLA RN Residency September 2019
- Should I accept this offer?
I was recently offered a job as an RN at a SNF a ~80 bed facility and was told I'd be working NOC shifts where I'd be the only RN on and in charge of the LVN's and CNAs on duty. Here's the catch: orientation is 1 week only, and I'm a new grad with 0 work experience. I am pretty desperate since I've been applying in the SoCAL area for months with no luck, but idk if I'll be able to handle this much responsibility, or am I overthinking this and it sounds like a good job to get me started with my nursing career? What are your thoughts on this offer? Should a new grad like myself take a job like this?- CHLA 2019 RN Residency Program

From what I've read on other posts from past cohorts, it seems like they start reaching out a month after people have applied. I don't think we'll hear back yet until all applications have closed and some are still open.- CHLA 2019 RN Residency Program
