Who is at fault for elopement?
I am very sorry to hear that about your grandmother, that's terrible. Form my understanding of it the nurse walks around the building every hour, not into residents rooms like the aides are supposed to but still looking and listening for anything out of the ordinary, and on the security footage the nurse was seen walking through the main lobby 10-15 minutes before the resident went out the main doors. The aides may or may not have been sleeping, From what I've gathered they told the directors that the nurse lets them sleep in various spots which I find highly unlikely and most likely just trying to cover their own butts. I've worked with this nurse for a while and can't see that being the case.. The aides must not have been doing rounds as they should though because the resident was oof until the morning when the manager of the store right down the road called and told the day nurse he was there.

Who is at fault for elopement?
Recently at my facility (ALF) a resident eloped and the overnight nurse was fired for it. We have resident aides that are supposed to do rounds every 4 hours. The front door to the facility is locked to people coming in but not going out. So is it the fault of the nurse since they are the supervisor, the aides because they are supposed to be watching the residents or the facility director for not having the proper precautions put in place?

Moved from NY to FL need to renew my NY license what address?
So my NY license is up for renewal but I have since moved to FL and got an endorsement to practice in FL. Should I use my new FL address to renew my NY license or my parents address in NY?

States that will license a RN with a criminal background
I just went through this with FL( literally, I got my endorsement on 7/2) for a dwai I had 20 years ago Just be honest about the DWI (you were just at the legal limit, thought you stopped drinking early enough in the night, have never gotten a ticket for it before, whatever) and send them all the paperwork. Florida doesn't have the same level of classification for DWI, DUI, DWAI as NY so they want you to disclose this incident (I learned that the hard way). Seeing as the other charges were so long ago they won't matter but you will have to disclose them as well. Here's some information the office people use to clear applications or send them to the board for review https://www.enfermeriaeneu.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/convict-record-guidelines.pdf

Anyone have experience with BoN wanting more background check info
Just to follow up incase anyone else ever has this situation I sent them the court records and stuff they ask for. I also sent the description of the course I had to take along with the community service paperwork and paper saying I completed the course. In the statement I told them what happened with the accident and why stuff was found in my system. I explained my confusion about saying yes or no to the DUI question, that I wasn't aware Florida didn't have a dwai classification. And I am now licensed to practice in NY and FL í ½í¸€

I studied but cannot remember a thing! Help
A lot of those things are very helpful. I used memory association a lot. Find one key point that was interesting to me and the rest would kinda fell into place. Also studying in groups or teaching the material to a friend or family member I've found helpful because you are changing the wording to explain it to someone else.

Getting your Florida License via Endorsement: A Detailed How-To Guide
You checked the wrong box, like I did. Attach a file from the "Check application status" page that says you only want the single state endorsement not the compact state. I'd also submit a copy of your drivers license and the residency declaration page of the application too. And pray they don't want you to do anything else. I submitted my application in March and still don't have my endorsement. I swear Mickey Mouse is running the office there. Everything I asked and reasked how to fill out I am now having to redo because I was told wrong. You should also send the information via email and regular mail, because I called to see what was going on with my application the other day and was told they were waiting on my letter saying I only wanted the single state endorsement which I emailed to them, as I was told to do, and received an email confirming they received it back in April.

Anyone have experience with BoN wanting more background check info
Ah, so maybe nothing to really worry about? When you wrote them did you give a lot of details or just the basic facts? That is one of the things I've been struggling with do I just say I got into an accident, they tested me, it came back, they gave me a DUI ticket , it was reduced to DWAI, I paid fine or give surrounding details

Anyone have experience with BoN wanting more background check info
Oh really? I wasn't aware of all that. Thanks, that actually clarifies some stuff for me.

Anyone have experience with BoN wanting more background check info
Thanks, I can read. Mine was a DWAI. Not a DWI nor DUI. It isn't the same thing and it doesn't fall under the same section of penal code they mention on the background check page. But that doesn't really answer my question.

Anyone have experience with BoN wanting more background check info
I submitted my fingerprints and paperwork for my license endorsement to Florida and it came back with a DWAI I got in 99 (which I didn't think I needed to state on my application). They sent me a letter asking for the court records, police report a statement from me about it etc. I didn't think it would matter since it happened almost 20 years ago and I didn't have any problems getting my license here in NY. I wasn't trying to hide it, I figured it would come up on the check. Has anyone had to submit additional information about their background check? Should I be worried?

DWAI 20 years ago, Florida wants details for endorsement
So I have been trying to get my endorsement so i can move to and get a job in Florida. It has been one gigantic pain in the butt. The latest thing was my background check returned a DWAI I got in 1999. I need to get my arrest report, court papers etc. Anyone have any experience with FL and getting endorsed? I am already licensed in NY and I had no problems with it when I needed to do my background check for school or licensing. The incident also happened in NY, my home state.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
I don't mean this as an attack but did you just use The Honeymooners, a show from 60 years ago to validate your argument? This may have been true 60 years ago but certainly isn't real life today. True, to a point but I think it depends on what you choose to believe. I grew up in the 90's where we had TV shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Saved By the Bell, Xena: Warrior Princess and Baywatch. All of which, at least how I saw them, had quite a mix of both. Buffy was a good looking girl but was also tough and a go getter, mean while who were her sidekicks? A bumbling guy who was in love with her. A quiet, yet smart and powerful witch. An intelligent but weak teacher. Xena, well she was a warrior princess need I say more? Even Baywatch which one could point out as THE epitome of sexism had women saving lives and kicking butts. Sure they were in tight swimsuits while doing so but so were the guys so there is an appeal to both men and women. And Saved by the Bell stereotyped everyone yet showed their strengths too, It showed how much they had in common. True, there is sexism and stereotypes everywhere. But we can choose to see past them if we wish to. We can choose to change. But we must do it correctly, we must do it together instead of separately. I grew up in an upper middle-class all white town where almost everyone in high schools parents bought them nice cars and almost everyone wore nice designer clothes and $150 shoes. But I didn't, I didn't care about those things even though I grew up with everyone around me believing you HAD to have the nicest, most expensive things. I also got along with everyone from the stoners to the straight edge kids, from jocks to the nerds. I choose not to buy into it. I choose to see past what people said and expected of others and I was accepted by all of them. And I changed a few of their minds along the way. Not everyone, but I was able to change some.

Male Nurse Disgusted by Female Nurses
I will agree that the way this is put comes off as an attack but I think the ladies here are taking these words a little too much to heart. Everything he said is true for the most part, and can you deny that women do tend to be catty? Can you deny that they will ****** and moan in private rather than go to management? I have seen this myself time and again having worked in many places where females outnumbered males. Women often ask why guys don't express their feelings, well this is how we do it. This is the only acceptable way we have been taught we are allowed to. He is showing his frustration and disappointment through anger. Where as a woman may cry and look for comfort we can't do that we can only get mad and blow off steam. Why doesn't he take it upon himself to go to management and get things changed? Why does he need everyone else? Well let me tell you this is a lesson I have learned the hard way. When you do this, whether in the right or not, you get singled out and in most cases end up getting setup to be fired. Safety in numbers anyone? I know these forums have to be, by the demographic of the professional field, overwhelmingly female but for gods sake please, please, PLEASE do not use the word patriarchy while talking to male coworkers. Whether true or not that is just one of those words and will put the person you are talking to on the defensive. Simply saying "a mostly male dominated" while the same thing is better sounding. As for guys getting more money as nurses I can't really say. Could it be that society still for some reason thinks a guy is more capable compared to a woman? Maybe. I know my grandmother always says she would rather have a guy taking care of her over a girl. It could be because of how society was, but it is changing. Granted it is not changing as fast as we would like, but it is changing. It isn't the fault of nurses but the fault of the people and their lack of knowledge of the nurses vast base of knowledge. I can certainly tell you I would rather something explained to me by a female RN with 35 years experience over a male doctor fresh out of med school. Or could it be that management sees that the guys are often asked to do more physical work by coworkers (lifting patients, restraining aggressive patients etc) and they want to compensate them for doing so? Maybe. I have worked with patients that had developmental disabilities and their way of expressing themselves was by becoming aggressive and had to be restrained physically. My coworkers were almost always all females and I felt the need to be there to protect them. Yes, I know i said it I'm not going to mince words that's how I felt. As to why that was, for one i'm a big guy (no, not a "Me big. Me man. Me strong." big guy I mean a 235 lb guy, I'm fat lol) and most of the girls were small, I'm talking 90 lbs soaking wet small. The residents ranged from 150-265 lbs. So if I got punched I knew it was going to hurt, but it was going to hurt my coworkers more. Two, they always yelled for me when something happened, so there's that. Three, some of my coworkers liked it. As one of the older women stated " I like having the guys around when this stuff goes on. it makes me feel safer having them around." Now this isn't to say the girls weren't able to do this stuff on their own, they got the same training as I did in SCIP and as a matter of fact we got yelled at by my boss one day for all this. She said "None of you should be acting like a white knight and always taking it upon yourself to intervene and no one should always be calling them to intervene." Funny thing about that is two of the girls I didn't really get along with said how they never did that and they could handle things themselves, not 30 minutes later were screaming for me when one of the guys was having a behavioral issue. Anyhow I'm getting off on a tangent (sorry ADHD i do that sometimes lol) More to the point i am reminded of a joke: Men socialize by making fun of each other, but they don't really mean it. Women socialize by complimenting each other, but they don't really mean it. Edit: These are my thoughts based upon my experiences and do not necessarily represent the thoughts or experiences of others, and some of my thoughts may or may not need further explanation to make better sense to anyone other than myself. So take it as you will and if you wish ask for further clarification.

How to decide on job when looking to move?

How to decide on job when looking to move?
Thanks for the reply Ruby. I don't know anything about either city as far as lifestyle goes other than Orlando has Disney. I know a few people who live in Jacksonville though. To me it makes little difference it isn't in the middle of nowhere is fine with me, though it would be nice to own a large piece of land. I don't know much about the jobs as they both wanted me to do face to face interviews and said HR would talk to me about benefits and what not. I do not know if the first job has a differential but I may be able to get a little more to start from them than the 17.50 because I do have experience with that population. All things being equal, since you live there, what would you say is a good starting wage for an entry level LPN? And are there any specific places you'd advise I look at?

My school is Unaccredited
You can..somehow...sit for a nationally standardized test...even if the school isn't nationally accredited..for a license that won't be nationally valid anyway...none of it makes sense. Learn Why Nursing School Accreditation Matters | All Nursing Schools Anyhow I would have to imagine that you would have to look into schools within your state and see what they will and will not accept. Going to another state I would think would make it harder, especially NY we have some tough education requirements. I would also look into getting a refund if you were lied to.

How to decide on job when looking to move?
Not sure if I should put this in LPN or Florida or what So I figure general. I just got my LPN license in early October and want to move and get a job. I have been looking at jobs mostly in Florida (Jacksonville, Orlando, Lady Lake). I have only talked to two places so far, waiting to hear from a few more, both in Jacksonville, one was a group home agency working with people with developmental disabilities (I love this population) with a starting pay of $17.50 an hour plus benefits. The other a rehab center at $19 with benefits , but no night or weekend differential. Anyhow I am not sure on how I should decide. I know more or less what to expect from the group homes as I have been direct care for some before but are rehabs good for new nurses? Is this a good pay rate for a new LPN I can live off in Floridsa? I have tried looking up LPN salaries but you only ever get the average and since I am low man on the totem pole this doesn't help me much. I have also tried doing research on cost of living in Florida and came up with some numbers but I have no idea if the information I read is actually correct or if I am over estimating based on what I read.

Graduate LPN Issues?
If you called them from the job site I would say no. How can you abandon a job you don't have? By what you are saying I am assuming you worked at a group home as direct care and I do not believe they are held to the same standards as a nurse in either case. However I do believe what you did was messed up, you left your coworker alone to do everything themselves. I had a similar incident happen a few years ago working at a group home and a blizzard completely buried Long Island. We were told our relief was still showing up, at the end of our shift we were told our relief couldn't get there. I was pretty pissed, I wanted to go home but after my manager let me dig into him a bit and vent I cooled off a little and was told we would be relieved in the morning. All the while we had to go outside and clear the driveway in case of a fire or anything. We would clear the driveway (about 60 feet long and 3 cars wide) and an hour later it looked like we didn't touch it.We gave up on that and just made a path down the driveway. Next morning only one person showed up and the other was going to be late. I let the other guy go home cause he had a family. Well my relief didn't show up so I was stuck again and to make it better the girl I was now with and I were the ones scheduled to work that evening. WOOHOO! So now I knew I wasn't getting out until at least 11 that night and I had been awake for almost 24 hours. At around the 30 hour mark I got the good news that I was going to be allowed to stay another night. I tell my manager I am calling in sick for tomorrow afternoon he says he understands. Shortly after this my body just started to slowly shut off. I couldn't think straight and was moving in slow motion so I said to her that I needed a nap and if she would be ok. She said yes so I slept for abit. In the meantime we learned that there was going to be someone from maintenance who had their own plow to clear us out in the morning. Next morning that didn't happen however I was finally relieved. She made a snide remark of "What a good of a job we did clearing the driveway." yeah, **** you lady I've been stuck here for almost 2 days with little to no sleep (I didn't say this just thought it). So I finally get home luckily my sisters boyfriend had cleared the driveway, and there is a frantic call from my elderly next door neighbor, who has a sick husband, I hear as the answering machine picked up. Thinking the worst I call her right back and ask what is wrong. "I'm snowed in I can't get my car out of the driveway!" No **** Sherlock there's 3 feet of snow outside everyone is snowed in. You're not going anywhere anyway. "Ok, I'll be over in a minute." What possessed me to say this I have no idea. But I start up the snowblower and proceed to spend who knows how long clearing her driveway. The next day I go into work and there is a write-up for me for not showing up for my scheduled shift. Are you ******* kidding me? I tell my assistant manager I had already told my manager about not coming in. After a little bit of arguing he calls my manager who confirms it and the write-up is thrown out.

I'm not saying I have 8 years of experience as an LPN. I am saying that I am an LPN(which I am) and have 8 years experience passing meds etc.(which I do). Is this any better?: Caring and compassionate LPN. I am newly licensed but I have 8 years experience in medication administration, physical assessment and patient teaching from previous jobs. I Consistently earn praise from patients and family members for excellent care.
