Hi all, Was wondering if any of you attended the math classes this week and if so what was covered? I'm planning on going but I just couldn't make it this week. Thanks...

Math 71 elegable, Eng. 1A, Anatomy 10 or 35, Physiology 10 or 35, Chemistry 10 (prerequisite for micro), and Microbiology 1 or 22; all of these must be completed prior to program application. Psych. 1A and Child 10 will also need to be completed prior to taking their corresponding nursing courses which, but they don't necessarily need to be done before submitting your application although doing so is a good idea. I would suggest becoming very familiar with the programs multi criteria screening guidelines and meeting with a school counselor for direction; when scheduling counseling be sure to ask for someone familiar with the nursing program. Hi ak88, I stopped by the campus bookstore today and there were several books available for semester one which in total cost about $1200. Fortunately most of them were marked "Optional", but there was a "Box of Nursing Books" marked required which cost $580. The "Box of Nursing Books" didn't indicate which books were in it but it did indicate that they were for Nurse 1A, 1B, and pharmacology. I have emailed the nursing dept. and asked for a complete list of required books so I can start gathering them now, if they send one to me I'll post it here if anyone is interested. Also, I recently (within the last 6-9 months) had to have a background check done for another healthcare program which cost around $40 (the Live Scan cost were included in the initial program tuition). All of the necessary test and vaccinations cost me about $100 at the student health center on campus, but I used my med. ins. for the physical done by my pcp. Not sure about uniforms or supplies but I will say that I am hoping that the uniforms have improved from past versions. Hope this helps a bit...

Does anyone know what the books are for the first semester?

I agree in part and I think the OP is missing many, if not all, of the pre requisites; however, most of the ones you mentioned are required for entry into any of the state funded / 2 year ASN programs in my state. The BSN programs in my area also require additional classes prior to recieving eligibility to even apply...

Even though I have completed all of the pre requisites (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics, Eng. Critical Thinking, Speach, Chemistry, psychology, and Child Development) for my ASN program and enough gen ed classes to of obtained a Kinesiology and Wellness AA, I'm still no where near being eligable to enter a BSN program because I'm missing several upper division pre requisites. I have a feeling that your probably just not yet in a position to be elegable for a BSN program. All this really means though is that it's going to take more time to reach your goals and it's this additional time seems to be your primary issue.

Hey cowboy! Congrats! I haven't exactly asked, but I'm pretty sure screening is part of the process at least initially. I'm thinking that there's no way to get around it since clinical rotations occur in hospitals.

I know what test banks are, I discovered them awhile back while taking a sociology class over the summer. In this case I used the questions to test my knowlege and understanding. I found them quite useful in this regard. I guess they could be misused if someone was merely trying to memorize answers, but I think that would be next to impossible and especially for an exam as involved as the NCLEX. Maybe this is news to some, but quizlet is often a kind of test bank. You might try searching a few of your exam questions verbatim and you'll most likely will see what I mean, but no one seems to think there's a problem using quizlet, or is there? Also, I have had a couple of classes where the professors provided study guides, is using a study guide cheating? I think you can make an argument that it is, after all, it is someone telling you what's going to be on the exam, so why isn't it? Certainly you would say it was cheating if someone who had taken a paticular exam was doling out advice, wouldn't you? I guess I'm just not seeing what the big deal is, isn't it that you either know the material or you don't come test time?

Ha! Maybe the question should be: Am I old enough to start nursing school? Just a thought... Seriously though, I have been reading replies to questions just like that from all types of formats for the past two years and there hasn't been a single time where someone suggested that someone could be too old to become a nurse / pursue their dream. I'm 48 and I have already had a successful career in a great field. I'm starting nursing school this coming Feb. (2018). The way I see it, I could literally work bedside for a couple of decades or even longer. I can't wait! Oh, and then maybe I'll go into something like teaching. Who knows what the future might be, but one thing we all know is that it only comes once. Live it the way you want and be the best nurse you can! PS I have read of a particular person who started nursing school when she was in her early 60's and is still going strong nearly 10 years later.

Hi All, Just got the orientation email. The dates are still Jan. 8th, 9th, & 10th from 8am to 4:30pm ( Building 67A, Room 206/216). There is also an attached math packet which needs to be completed showing work and turned in on the first day of orientation; all of the math is fairly basic but there are a bunch of questions. Can't believe we are almost there! PS It also asked that we reply confirming our attendance.

Old topic but what the heck. I'm in California and the cc where I got my CNA training also offers an acute care program which is an enhancement on a regular cna license. The program is really difficult to get into because they only take 10 at a time. Training consist of additional coursework and clinical hours in an acute care facillity/hospital. Ironically, i have looked over hundreds of hospital cna job postings in my are and not a single one has mentioned anything about the extra training. Most hospitals are direct in asking for prior experience and I have seen request ranging from 6 mos. to 3 years, but some do not require any experience at all or so they say, but these are rare. Hi all, I wanted to share my situation. After two years of working really hard to get a degree and finish the pre requisites, I was recently accepted into a program which begins this coming spring, I'm 48. If I'm lucky, I'll be starting my first job as an RN when I'm 50. I will say that my age has been a source of constant internal struggle between finishing this journey or returning to my former career. I nearly took the later route several times, but I'm glad that I chose to stick it out having come this far. For me, like I have heard others say, I'd rather be an RN at 50 than be 50 and regreting my choice not to pursue my dreams.

Hi, I think it's too soon to know but I could be wrong and maybe someone else can help you out. I know that the application cohort which applied during the spring had several applicants with the same number of points in the 60th position. In this case their order was determined by the date of their application submission; essentially, those who applied earlier were positioned before those who applied later. Really though, you only need to worry about when you turn in your application if you end up in the 60th position out of the 60 candidates chosen for the program. PS: For the fall cohort, the first Hesi A2 exam didn't take place until Aug. 15th with an additional 2 or 3 dates scheduled afterwards. Initially I was concerned because my test date was so late in the application period, but because my point total was above the accepted low, it didn't make any difference. Hope this puts your mind at ease a bit...

If I remember I think my score was about 82 or 84%, this section only has 30 questions so there's not a lot of room for error. It felt as though I had questions from every organ system: bones, muscles, endo/exo, neural (structure, function, and systems), cardio/ vascular, respiration - all of them. An example question would be simething like this: Indicate which muscle or muscle group is respinsible for abducting the forarm?

I am really glad to hear that you have been hanging in there, and I wanted to mention something about bankruptcy because so many people have the wrong idea about who should use it. The simple fact about bankruptcy is that it's available for one thing and secondly it was written in order to protect individuals who happen to be experiencing financial conditions exactly like the ones your'e facing. Think about it, if a large corporation found itself drowning in debt because of some mistakes which it had made and was about to go under, you can be the bank that they would run as fast as they could to bankruptcy court. Believe me, they would take full advantage of every opportunity available to them in order to stabilize their financial situation with the sole intention of promoting their own well-being and future. Sure, you need to find out how filing will impact your future but there is no shame in taking advantage of a mechanism that was designed with private individuals in mind. After all, you only have so much time to experience this thing we call life, so make the best of it as soon as possible. Oh, one more thing: if you eventually decide to take advantage of our countries bankruptcy laws, do some research and be sure to maximize it's benefit. Kind Regards, funnie17

Hi all, I recently took the Hesi A2 and scored a 94. I received my worst score in the A&P section which was a shock because I'm reasonably strong in A&P and I was expecting my score in this area to be in the high 90s. When I studied for A&P I focused of on all of the organ systems and I paid extra attention to hormones (producing organs, mechanisms which cause hormone production/release, and action. In total my exam (every exam is different) included 2 or 3 questions about hormones. I was expecting an on screen calculator but for my exam there wasn't one and all of the work had to be done by hand. Initially this totally stressed me out but in the end I scored 100% in this section. To list a few concepts, the math section included conversions (metric and standard), ratios (there were a bunch of ratios on my exam), algebra (fairly basic), and all of the fundamentals like percentages. For vocab. I studied every word I could locate that someone had attributed to the Hesi (about a hundred in total). In total, doing this helped me score well in this section but my exam only had about 3 or 4 of the extra words I studied on it. The section on grammar was fairly straight forward and some the more difficult questions I answered instinctually and was successful doing so. As far as comprehension, I took the time to re read the passages as needed because some of them were fairly long. This section is pretty straight forward. As far as everything else - stay calm, take your time, don't rush through the questions and re read them as necessary, keep track of time (The exam took me nearly the entire time allowed but doing the math problems by hand had a lot to do with this), and kill it! You got this! PS Questions could only be looked at once so there was no going back - you either knew the answer or not. Best Regards, funnie17

Right? What documents? Don't they already have everything they need? I'm going to send an email and I'll let you know what they say... A couple weeks ago I looked into financial aid in the form of student loans both subsidized and unsubsidized and learned that I had missed the last mandatory orientation for the Fall semester. Such a bummer! I was told to apply in the Spring. In regards to federal and state grants, the application period is currently open.

Congratulations to all! Good question. I just sent them the following email: "Will the nursing dept. be sending out confirmation of receiving our acceptance letters for the program starting this next spring? Also, will you be sending out any further details regarding the program orientation?" I'll let you know what they say when... EDIT: I just saw that in our acceptance letters they mentioned that more information about the orientation and parking will be sent out during the first week in December.
