  1. i like to be totally independent and make decisions on my own so i should be md but i like being a nurse and flexibility comes with it. time and money not an issue right now. i just have to make a decision. thanks :)
  2. i have a dilemma and don't know what to do. I have been accepted by crna program and also a medical school in Caribbean. i checked the school and most students who graduate from it end up in family medicine. they both have pros and cons i just cannot make my mind.
  3. I don't know anything about it. I would contact bon of ca. . Congrats for your green card
  4. i would like to tell something all the nurses who want to immigrate to US. do NOT come to USA unless you already have green card. Go to CANADA where you will be valued as an RN who can contribute to economy. Even thoug there is "shortage" in nursing still you wont get green card. Dont waste your time... Go to CANADA
  5. in my experience prisons hiring nurses as long as they have pulse but it is very hard to get a hospital job with only prison experience.
  6. good luck for finding a sponsor and a job. First, I dont think you can get green card based on employment. there is no enough visas left for nurses. But because you are a canadian, thru NAFTA you may get it. I know nurses who got sponsorship from hospitals but couldnt get green card because there arent enough visas. i would hire an immigration lawyer first. Secondly, job market is not good even for experienced nurses. i have applied 100s and 100s positons in NYC but nothing not even a damn phone call or an-email. if i were you i would work in canada first get some experience in ED, ICU, Tele after that if i could try to work in NY.
  7. i may get a job at Hunts point prison in Bronx. Does anyone know anything about this prison? thank you
  8. i have bsn and i applied NYP but nothing so far.
  9. I have applied 100s of jobs in nyc but i dont even have one interview yet. NYP has openings over 100, Mount sinai over 300 jobs for nurses but somehow i am not good for none of them!!!!. Nurse recuiters dont answer the phones or emails. what the heck is going on? Do i have to pay somebody to get a job? i also applied jobs in NJ,PA as well. Nothing
  10. i had a friend whose grandmother went to school to be LPN age at 67 and she did it.
  11. my dad is psychiatrist and always a good dr learns from nurses
  12. get master degree in nursing so you can practice medicine and be a nurse at the same time.
  13. if you werent smart you wouldnt have LVN after your name
  14. it's hard to find a job for everyone. try to make yourself kind of unique. once i was told that i should learn sign language or spanish etc. you could also get some certifacations. these things will make your resume stronger and make you more desirable next to other person. Try prisons (very safe to work)
  15. english is my second language as well. just keep your nursing notes short and clear. no need for using big words or making complex senteces. after all you're not required to write full essay for each patient :)
  16. he cannot be contagious otherwise the school wouldnt take the risk spreading tb to others. so you and other will be ok.
  17. if you werent smart you wouldnt have LVN after your name
  18. there is one book for CEN it's only questions and answer i forgot the name but you can find it at borders or barnes&noble
  19. i worked at prison in philly as a new grad started with 31/hr evening shift ( or 28/hr cant remember exactly) about 3 years ago.
  20. it pays more so it is good enough for me to love it :)
  21. i did over 5000 practice questions before NCLEX. i got the point where i didnt need to read the question any more. i was just looking at the answers and i knew what was the right answer :) On NCLEX i got 75 questions and i passed. before i left the room i knew i passed the test because the last few questions were too easy for me. do practice questions, more questions and more questions and more questions then you would be fine
  22. i got my prison job at Job Fair. they had a stand there i gave them my resume and a week later i called them back then they asked me to come for interview which was a joke. Hiring person came to me and she said do you have pa license and i said yes and then she says next monday there is orientation be here 7am :) that was it. i worked at PHS which is a company provides healtcare for inmates. there are other companies as well doing the same thing. check prisons' website under careers you would find opening for nurses. usually nurses work under contractor not a state employee. check them out. here's the link for phs http://www.phscorrections.com/
  23. in the begining as a full time (new graduate) i was paid 31/hr then i became PRN and i was paid 40/hr. as PRN i was doing a lot of over time i mean a LOT :)
  24. you should get your BSN anyway because each year more hospitals are requiring or prefering nurses with BSN. I've been there I know how difficult it is. you may want to check prisons. i have worked at the prison for a long time because nobody hired me as a new nurse. Most people think it is dangerous to work at prisons but that's not true at all. you are never alone with/out inmates. There's always correctional officer near by. Prison settings are different than hospital settings but for sure you will learn a lot about medications. So just go for it.
