I'm in the process of negotiations for pay for a prn/part time position at a private ortho practice giving joint injections. They will pay for mal practice and my dea license. I get no other benefits and no paid time off. They are offering me 45 an hour. Is this reasonable? Am I getting a decent offer or should I ask for 50? I know 2 others that work there, and while I can't mention to the owner I know what they make... One is full time and makes 60/hr plus benefits and another is full time and makes 42/hr plus benefits. I have the same amount of experience as the 60/hr person and the 42/hr is a new grad.
Thanks everyone!
i should mention it will be anywhere from 5-8 hours a week. I don't want to push it, but I wasn't sure what is reasonable for me to ask for.

I think given the fact that they won't be paying your benefits and you're as experienced as the $60/hr person I think you should ask for $50/hr. It doesn't hurt to ask and you'll always be kicking yourself if you don't at least try.

Where is the location of the practice? I honestly think this is a very low offer. I have two part time positions in addition to my full time job. One pays 55/hour and the other 65/patient. What is the reimbursement for each joint injection? How many would you do in an hour? You will be in a better place to negotiate if you can estimate how much money you will be earning for the practice.
I think that joint injections are a rather lucrative procedure so therefore should be compensated as such. I was recently told by another NP of a part time, 30-hr/week job in my area of doing joint injections and she was offered 85K with benefits. This job is in the SE where historically salaries are on the low side.

I agree an hourly rate is confusing - you should work out what you'll be earning them and go from there, not compare to their current employees.

Hmmm, I think 45 is too low as you will not be paid any benefits. As an RN part-timers are paid more. I know an NP in a rural ER who makes 70part time. So I say go for 60.

Worst you can do is ask. If it was me I would ask for $55 then settle for $50...
