I am going to post here as I go to keep myself motivated.

I found a school nearby that takes straighterline, portage, etc. for prerequisites and I can save a good amount of money going through de-MSN program.

Done:

(Statistics) Straighterline Business Statistics & Aleks Introduction to Statistics. Finished both in 12 days. The Aleks was basically a freebie and the school accepts the Business Stat course which allowed a more robust calculator.

Pending:

Chemistry I no lab, A&P I&II with lab, Microbiology with lab, Biochemistry, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology.

I’m going to start Chem now, any suggestions on order for the others is appreciated.

It’s hard, but I find I actually retain more that way. Plowing into the material full force makes it an experience, something like the intensity of boot camp. You find later in you recall more than you would have thought possible.

that said, I’ve been on a break! Holy cow I was overwhelmed after 5000+ pages of hard sciences.

I am in talks with Alverno and Chamberlain right now. Chamberlain has a program in the wisconsin/Illinois area where all the courses are 8 weeks online, and clinicals are held in two 3 day stretches on weeks 7 & 8. That really caught my attention. If they accept all the transfers I’m proposing I could graduate with a BSN in 5 much less intense semesters than Alverno’s DEMSN program.

Tentatively accepted to Alverno’s DEMSN!!

I just ordered the lab kits for A&P 1 & 2 and Microbiology. When they arrive I will post progress updates / experience for anyone interested in taking them.

Im currently slated for the Summer 2021 session, but if a spot opens up in Fall or Spring and I’ve finished my prerequisites I can take it.

I found out Alverno just started the first Neonatal NP program in the State of Wisconsin and that pushed me heavily toward their program. My first child was a 25 week gestation premie. I’d love to be an NNP, but wasn’t willing to move out of state.

that's great news. I'm also a mom of a preemie (micro- 24 weeker 1lb 5 oz) and he's 6 years now..this is one specialty I've been really interested in and thus has pushed me to move forward in my career choice.

God bless ya, I know what you’ve been through. My son reached 1lb 6oz at one point. This was an eternity so though; almost 17 years now.

Just completed my Chemistry and Nutrition finals. About 98% sure I pulled A's in both classes. ?

Signing up for stats and A&P I (or Bio 101, haven't decided, its recommended before A&P) next.

3-4 schools in my area accept straighterline. The specifics were discussed in subsequent posts.

Well, I have between now and the end of the year to complete the labs and two psych courses but these lab kits are taking forever to arrive. Slated for a Summer 2021 start at Alverno demsn.

Im reading for abnormal psych now.

The overwhelming enjoyment I’ve had from taking these science prerequisites and my fascination with pathophysiology and the underlying biochemical proceses has me strongly considering making the moonshot for medical school. There is a 4 year university 20 miles down the road with a B.S. in biochemistry program. I could start in September and have all the prerequisites for medical school finished before I started at Alverno; hedge my bets if I didn’t get into medical school and still do the demsn program.

I’m not sure what I will do.

I have thankfully had the exact opposite experience in Chem (feels like endless tedium and teeth pulling). Thankfully I was a math UG so I was able to coast a bit on that for the first few modules.

So yea, just give me whatever natural sciences I need to responsibly diagnose/prescribe and that's it. NP route for me all the way ?

I would have loved to study mathematics extensively. I’ve studied through calculus 1 so I have a rudimentary understanding, but lack of repetition always seems to degrade my skills. I would have loved to have explored the underlying principles and proofs that formed the formulas we regurgitated from grade school through undergrad!

Progress update:

Almost done reading for abnormal psych. Tedious material. Developmental psych is next

All lab kits arrived, but all were missing at least 1 essential component and the supplier is all crickets. Must follow up or source my own phosphate buffered saline, etc.

2 weeks until newborn arrives.

Finished abnormal psych reading, developmental psych reading pending.

Lab kits finally fully arrived. May begin finishing this month. I had hoped to get into the September cohort, but with the waiting list and limited time January is looking more realistic.

The new baby was born July 23rd and had a short NICU stay for transient tachypnea. Thankfully the doctor on calL, was excellent and ran an echocardiogram on a hunch because I have benign ehlers danlos. The baby has bicuspid aortic valve. Now all first degree blood relatives will be screened.

It was a really interesting experience conversing with the doctors and nursing staff with my newfound knowledge as a point of commonality. I found it very encouraging. Despite my ASD awkwardness I was able to converse quite fruitfully and bridge past my normal social inadequacies.
