Prerequisite(s) progress thread

I am going to post here as I go to keep myself motivated.

I found a school nearby that takes straighterline, portage, etc. for prerequisites and I can save a good amount of money going through de-MSN program.

Done:

(Statistics) Straighterline Business Statistics & Aleks Introduction to Statistics. Finished both in 12 days. The Aleks was basically a freebie and the school accepts the Business Stat course which allowed a more robust calculator.

Pending:

Chemistry I no lab, A&P I&II with lab, Microbiology with lab, Biochemistry, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology.

I’m going to start Chem now, any suggestions on order for the others is appreciated.

Took a long break; health issues and moving. Finished Abnromal Psych and Developmental Psych with Coopersmith 2 weeks ago. Fun courses, challenging finals.

Just completed Straighterline A&P 1&2 labs. Awaiting grading, but should pass no problem. Waiting for experiments to grow for Straighterline Microbiology lab; bought a dry bath and used copper BB’s instead of blocks. Perfect cell culture incubator. 12 days until I finish everything.

Starting Alverno DEMSN January 2021!

So excited!

Looking back I really underestimated what a mountain of information accelerated programs require you to learn before starting. It’s quite a mountain to climb. Easily 6000+ pages of hard sciences in reading, hundreds of exams, and at least a good 40 hours of time processing labs, dissecting specimens, growing cultures, etc.

It feels like I completed a second major.

I am finally almost done. I took Microbiology this past semester, but I have a C, so I'm thinking about retaking it for a higher grade. I was planning on taking the Spring off with no classes while I finished studying and taking the TEAS and registering for WGU. But, I'd rather take one more wack at it and try for a better grade. My A&P grades are a 4.0 which is great, but I don't want that C to affect my chances.

You’ll be fine. There’s a real shortage of students willing to study in the Covid era.

This is an inspiring thread. Congratulations on finishing all that and starting your program next month! I just wrapped up my second semester of pre-reqs, taking just a science and an easier class at a time because I have 6 kids. I cannot wait to be nearing the finished line.

Best of luck to you! I've been taking 3 classes at a time for a while now. I'm just about done!

I hear you. We just had our 4th in July. Between that and my lingering recovery from Covid this has been a really hard journey.

When students have worked hard to take pre-reqs and applied to schools? In my area, there are still the multiples of applicants but I would like to know how Covid has effected the nursing admissions in our country. Please steer me in the right direction. Thank you.
