Prerequisite(s) progress thread

I am going to post here as I go to keep myself motivated.

I found a school nearby that takes straighterline, portage, etc. for prerequisites and I can save a good amount of money going through de-MSN program.

Done:

(Statistics) Straighterline Business Statistics & Aleks Introduction to Statistics. Finished both in 12 days. The Aleks was basically a freebie and the school accepts the Business Stat course which allowed a more robust calculator.

Pending:

Chemistry I no lab, A&P I&II with lab, Microbiology with lab, Biochemistry, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental Psychology.

I’m going to start Chem now, any suggestions on order for the others is appreciated.

Straighterline Microbiology quizzes #1, 2 are pretty much straight route information from the book. Quiz 3 has multiple difficult scenario questions that are not adequately covered by the material. Have midterm, quizzes 4,5,6, and final left. Should make short work of it this week.

Midterm mostly covers material rote from the book, but some problems were conceptual. Quizzes 4,5,6 were mostly from the book. Quiz 6 had some questions that I had to guess because they were absolutely not covered by the material.

Going into the final tomorrow with a 90. I expect to finish the class with a b unless my brain dumps from all this studying. I should be able to guess my way to a c since the final is only worth 30% of the grade and I need a 23% on it to pass overall. Will immediately begin the quizzes for A&P I in the following days and post about what they are like for any future students who use Straighterline.

I am simultaneously doing Chem 1 with lab through Portage and completing my M.Div (master of divinity) thesis at a seminary. These things do not fit well together and my brain is cooked.

Oh my, that is a lot. Where is your mdiv through? I attended Liberty for my undergrad and majored in religion: biblical and theological studies. I’d love to do an mdiv through liberty after nursing school for personal fulfillment; though I’m not Baptist. I just loved their online format. I’d like to be a pmhnp as well, and previously attended an mdiv program. The ironies.

Yea I was guessing somewhere in high church world based on your profile icon!

Did an MAR in theology at Yale several years ago, currently finishing an M.Div at Colgate Rochester Crozier (a mouthful, CRCDS for short) so I can do chaplaincy for the National Guard. They had their start in the American Baptist tradition but are now a pretty interfaith place. I recommend them if you are considering a joint degree.

There are a lot of M.Div/MSN types from what I've seen. In my tradition there are very, very few full time professional ministers so you see a lot of folks who are in adjacent fields like psychology/social work/nursing. ?

Indeed. I’m so high Church I ended up Catholic. Firmly learning the history of the Church has a tendency to do that.

Thanks for your service. I miss being in uniform.

I miss it too... in doses. I was going to go active chaplaincy but a year after I was discharged and back in the normal world my blood pressure had dropped like 25 points from less stress. So, will be going weekend warrior instead LOL.

You as well (and everyone here, really, I speculate there are a lot of nurses in more danger right now than I was then).

Went into the final for Microbiology with a 90%, finished the class with an 82%. I’m happy with that. The final was tough. Tons of questions related to genetics in my case, and a primary focus on bacteria with the next most common topic fungi. I’d assume it’s a random selection from the test question bank.

Took the first microbio quiz April 26 without reading, material was easy and you can retake your first quiz. Started reading for the course May 8 after wrapping up Chem.

so essentially it’s reasonable to finish straighterline’s microbio with 12 days of full time study/tests. Probably could be done faster but I’m also reading for anatomy.

Always hated it when I entered the final with an A and then blew it. This happens probably as much from a person psyching out as not being sufficiently prepared.

My goal was an 80 so I’m pretty pleased. Straighterline finals are notoriously different than the quizzes that lead up to them. They essentially structure the classes to force you to take them twice. Maybe it’s just me, but I struggle to get anything but B’s at Straighterline. My undergrad GPA was 4.0 and in the two semesters I was in a graduate program before plans changed my GPA was 3.83.

3/18 test done for Straighterline A&P I. So far much easier than their Chemistry and Microbiology classes. Probably because I took those classes first. Very pleased. I hope to finish this in 4-5 days.

6/18 tests done. Test 5&6 contain a few more difficult questions ergo "which of the following is false" which require obscure knowledge of specific systems that I don’t think anyone would remember off the top of their head. Still, this is by far the most enjoyable Straighterline class I’ve taken.
