Portage Learning Classes

Published

I'm considering doing a few of the prerequisites I need for nursing school through Portage Learning. I was hoping to get input from others that have used it in the past or are currently using it. The classes I would be taking are Nutrition, Human Growth & Development, and Microbiology. I would be starting with Nutrition first. I'm currently finishing up A&P II through my local community college. I'm switching gears, because I'll need just one more hour after that in prerequisites to apply to the nursing school and I don't want to wait until July, the end of summer semester, to have it. So ideally I'd like to finish Nutrition in about six weeks. (I work full time.) I do know the classes are accepted by the school I'm applying to, an advisor there actually turned me onto it. Hearing other's experiences, timelines, etc. would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Hi there,

I'm taking a couple of classes on Portage Learning too. Currently I'm taking Human Developmental Psych and a Medical Terminology class. My next classes are going to be A&P and Microbiology. Somehow I need to get that Chem class in there too, although that might be my toughest class. Anyway, I'm about 1/2 way done with the two I'm taking. I'm a mom of six kids, so my time is limited for sure. There are some weeks I fly through a module in a couple of days, and then I have to take a break for life stuff. Anyway, I love that they're self-paced for that very reason. I'm hoping to finish these two within the next couple of weeks and enroll for the next pair soon after that.

Curious, where are you applying? My advisor told me about Portage too, and I'm glad she did.

Specializes in SRNA.

I took Developmental (Lifespan) Psychology and it was self-paced and relatively an easy A. I finished the course in under a month.

I would recommend them any day.

That's the course I'm taking too. LOL I had a brain fart before. Developmental (Lifespan) Psychology is fairly straightforward so far. I like the self-paced aspect of Portage Learning.

I ended up starting with Nutrition. Taking my first exam tomorrow and nervous about it, fingers crossed! ShiRuns-I'm applying to a local nursing school in Missouri that's linked with a major hospital. Where are you?

Did you have to write a paper for that one? I read on some older posts from a few years back that they did, just curious if that's still the case.

Saltlife26, I'm in the Chicago area, so not too far away!

Yes Lifespan Psychology does require a final paper. I'm not too far away from starting it!

Not too far at all, that's awesome! The paper is what made me pick Nutrition first, I haven't written a paper in years! Was there about 20-30 questions on your exams? I think that's what I've read from users of these classes.

Yep! Usually about 20-30 questions and some short essay questions on the last page.

Hi Saltlife26, i'm also in the Missouri area. Haven you taken microbiology with Portage or is anyone currently taking it?

I'm taking Micro and A&P I. I started them both but I'm doing a little more A&P at the moment, then I'll catch up on Micro.

Hi lenwhite-I haven't done Micro yet. I finished Nutrition and am doing Human Growth and Development now. I'm saving Micro for last.
