hi!guys....just new here,this is really a very helpful site for nurses and aspiring nurses...this is such a great way to communicate to nurses in different countries.

By the way, i am currently taking up Practical Nursing here in the Philippines and i am just wondering if ever i get to graduate will i ever get to work in the US,Canada or maybe Australia (btw, its just a 2 yr course)?i also did some research about the curriculum or subjects that my school offer, they are the same with some PN schools in the US. I am worried that i might be wasting effort, time and money and will not get a decent job in the said countries.

i have a samiliar problem. can anyone offer any advice?

for the past five months i have been preparing to attend johns hopkins' tradional bsn program in september. i've done everything from getting my immunizations to buying my uniforms, the most adorable polo shirts with johns hopkins embroidered on them. i was mentally ready to go to hopkins. then yesterday i received a letter that threw me all off track. an acceptance letter from university of maryland's clinical nurse leader program. this is a fairly new program but upon completion i would receive a masters instead of just a bsn, in only 16 months, and for possibly 20k less. i have a huge dilemma.

i know you're probably reading this and wondering what my problem is but i really don't know what to do. i am mainly concerned about the quality of training i will receive and the types of jobs i will get once i graduate. johns hopkins is very expensive so that's something else to consider. i have no experience as a nurse so will my masters from university of maryland trump a bsn from hopkins? ultimately, i'd like to either specialize, go into administration, work for the government, or teach.

i've already graduated from a big name school and while i feel like its opened some doors for me i also feel like i could have gone to a lesser known school, saved a lot of money and still had a quality education.

tough one. if you know you want and msn then the direct entry masters program may be the way to go.

that said, if you really want to go to hopkins, then go there. it is your education so you might as well get what you want.

Another option is to go to your particular states Board of Nursing site. If you don't know it go to www.ncsbn.org then click on state boards and your state. The boards list the schools accredited by their state on the sites. I am in Texas and they even break it down by type of degree:LVN, LVN to RN, RN to BSN,etc. The issue with some of the online programs is the lack of clinical opportunties. I have found personally that you do better with a state university that has a online program. I attended University of Texas Medical Branch's RN to BSN for my second degree. They have lots of IT support and a very sound program.

vharper4 check your area colleges that offer nursing programs. The program that I am in has many online courses. You really do need to meet in person for some amount of time but there are many of your courses that can be done online.

hi blsqueen, i've been searching on line, well it feels like forever, for a school that offers some courses on line as well as interactive. I have a Bachelors in Health Administration and am looking to move into the nursing area. Do you know of specific schools that offer some nursing classes on line?

I myself am looking to go to an online nsg school for LPN to RN associate degree. Rue offers the program online but it is $13,000. Are there any grants or scholarships available for these online courses? I am really interested in doing this, but don't think I can afford it.

try going to your states board of nursing site and search around for schools... it should have a list of schools seperated by degree type and school type and what it accreditates...try that. it helped me
