Thanks so much to those that have replied to my questions so far - you have really helped me.

Does anyone know how I start this thing off then? I want to work in Sacramento? Who do I email/write to to ask for an ATT?

Also, my mum lives in Sacramento (English nurse, went with an agency 5 years ago) is about to "pledge" for her US citizenship. Can she help me emigrate first and then sit nclex exam and find job whilst over there?

I am married (husband works for American based company - Xerox) and have 2 young (5 and 4) children.

So, any advice?????

Thank you

For NCLEX in CA you need to go to CA BON and look at info requirements for foreign trained nurse. Because married and over 21 it will take years after your mum files for you before you will be able to join her fastest route wold as RN.

Yes you need to do it via nursing-can you mum not give you advice if she has already done the process? Surely she can find you a hospital who is willing to sponser you. When did you train? Did you do paeds, midwifery and mental health placements and modules

Thanks,

I kinda had a feeling about that - just wondered if it would be a quicker way.

Guess I better get started then!

How about your move to Phoenix?

MY move to Phoenix or Anna?

And the slowest route would be to go thru CA for initial licensure, it will be about six months for you to get permission to sit for the exam, and then another month to find out results...............it is much easier just to endorse to them and that can be done in just one day.

It will be much faster for you to get to the US if you get petitioned as an RN and go that route, otherwise you are looking at several years, and I mean years. Family petitioning is at the low rung of the list.

Please check out the International Forum, there is a sticky at the top concerning working in the US, that will answer most of your questions.

And for questions concerning working in the US, please post them there. Things to not differ from which country that you are from, and much easier to keep everything in the same forum, and only answered once.

i suppose if her husband works for a usa company, would it be possible to go on a different type of visa if he got a transfer, i know people do this, unfortunately its not a greencard but it could be a way into the country sooner she could apply from the usa then, i suppose, i dont really know enough about it but she could ask the question here

Thanks so much, I'm new to this forum and am still trying to navigate my way around.

The issue is that most times she will not get a working visa, only a dependent visa. He would be coming over either on the H1-B or even the L-1. In the past, the L-1 would be able to get a working visa for the spouse, but that stopped several months ago, only dependent visas are now granted with the L-1.

She would have to go thru the AOS process, and there is a freeze going into place with that in just a few weeks. Best route is the green card, and then the entire family would get the perks of it. For the husband to get the green card, it will be at least five years.

Hi,

Sorry I meant Anna's - getting wires crossed already!

Thanks for your advice. Could I please ask you tho' - to start it all off do I email or write to CA BON with my CV and ask for a form (ATT form?) to send to my nursing school or what? I realise (now) that waiting for this ATT could take 6 months or so - but I'll try to study like mad for the Nclex in the meantime.

I'm an adult nurse and yes, the training did cover paeds, midwifery and mental health.

Thanking you (or anyone) in advance for info.

Hi

You need to download the application for foreign nurse on the CA BON and follow the instructions. They don't want your CV but will need your transcripts. They may have rules about sending transcripts ie your school of nursing has to send them not you. They will after doing their own assessment on your transcripts will issue ATT (or say you meet their requirements) then you need to register with pearsonvue pay the fee and arrange NCLEX. Saunders is a good book and can be bought from all good book stores or they can order it for you.

I have just restarted the process again as after a lot of delays ie CGFNS and hospital backing out hubby at the beginning of the year decided he didn't want to go to AZ we have recently decided to give it another go, just hoping that the retrogression isn't going to affect nurses from the UK.
