Hi everyone! This is my first semester back for BSN classes and I'm struggling with writing papers. We have a 5 page APA research paper due on week 4 and this week we have to pick the topic. Which topic would you suggest for a mediocre paper writer? Here is the list we can choose from:
Caring
Holistic nursing practice
The “art” of nursing
Quality Improvement
Health Literacy
Health Care Disparities
The health of the community
Contributions of various levels of education
Professionalism
The culture of nursing
Corporate (organizational) culture
Historical perspectives
Mentoring other nurses
Political involvement
Patient advocacy
Research
Nursing Informatics
Culturally sensitive care
Professional image of nurses
Effective leadership

Pick one that interests you. Being interested in the topic will make the paper a little less of a chore.

Which topic makes you want to learn more about it? If you can't decide, close your eyes and point. That is pretty much the same thing as asking strangers to help you pick. ? Good luck!

My teachers always liked when I wrote things that are related to current events, somewhat controversial, thought provoking yet, interesting and engaging.
Thinking along the lines of:
"The Benefits and Pitfalls of a Universal Healthcare System."
In terms of any research data for this topic, it's already widely available. (Of course, you would cite your sources.) Then you could load up the research paper with all kinds of graphs, charts, and other research statistics.
All you would need to do is provide your own thought provoking introduction, identify and discuss the controversies, provide interpretation, analysis, and conclusions in the usual manner.

Initially, I always chose topics that interested me... the only problem.... they were typically harder to research and write on. I would choose a topic that you could find a good amount of concrete research data on... especially for first paper. Hot topics now... anything quality improvement, health literacy or cultural competence.
I always started off with a rough draft outline... once I had the skeleton, filling it in was easier. Also, sounds cheesy, but free online essay title generators helped me.

From that list, I would choose Health Literacy. There should be a ton of recent articles about it.
A couple of those topics make me look for an emesis basin, but I'm odd.
