Please HELP !!!! HCV+

Hy there,

Great forum you have here !!!! I`m loving it !!

This it`s my first post on this forum.

First off all, please escuse my english. I`m not from UK, i`m from Romania, but i do all my best with my english and i really hope that you understand.

So .... i`m a 24 years old male, from Romania , country from EU.

I`m in Romania at this moment, but i want to come in UK next year.

I have a BSc Degreea in Nursing, and i want to come in UK next year, to apply for a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing at London City University, and after that for a MSc in Nursing.

Buttttttttttttt.... i have a problem. I was diagnosted with Hepatitis C positive (HCV+) 2 years ago. Now, at this moment I`m on treatment with Pegasys and Ribavirin.

And my question is : Please can you lett me know if a person who is Hepatitis C positive can work like a nurse in UK?

Please lett me know if you can, because i don`t have any ideea what to do and I really want to come in UK to work like a THEATRE NURSE !

You have to give members a chance to reply, You may need to contact the occupational health at the hospital you want to work in the UK and see what they are following.

You will need to contact occupational health, but let's say theatre nursing is not the best area to work in, you might be restricted from certain procedures and I don't think that an employer will be happy with that, since you're a new applicant. Same goes for A+E nursing or work as an ambulance technician/paramedic.

Thanks a lot for you answer. Now, i`m on treatment for HCV with interferon and ribavirin. After treatement, if I will clear the virus, do you think I can work like a theatre nurse?

I will contact occupational health and i really hope that they will give me a good answer. Thank a lot again, and please escuse my not very good english. Hope you understand me :D

I can't really help you in regards to your query but just wanted to say that I think your English is of a very high standard and wish you all the best for the future.

Nurse Student, I think you will stuggle to find work whilst you are still positive, I have a feeling that most NHS employers will require staff who are HCV + to work in low risk areas where invasive procedures are at a minimum. I would also advise that you contact your Occupational health department who will be able to advise you further, and will be able to also give you advise for after your treatment.

I`m a bit sad because i have this b***y bug ! I want so mutch to work like a theatre nurse in UK, but i`m not sure if I`m allow to.

I sent yesterday a few emails to Occupational health department from fome UK Hospitals, but i`m still waiting their repply.

If somebody else from this forum have any ideas, advices, please a lot don`t hesitate to tell me.

Or, if somebody just want to speak with me about HCV, or treatment, just sendme a PM. I know I lot of things about HCV and interferon treatment. I`m on my 23 treatment week now, from 44 :yeah:
