platt college

Hi . I just wanted to pick your brain about Platt and Oklahoma.

Hope you don't mind.

I was wondering since the school doesn't have housing how you go about finding a place to live . I did an internet search, but it is hard to tell what things are really like on-line.:uhoh3:

I worry about safe vs unsafe areas and costs of housing etc.

How are you working these issues out ?

I would really like to do this program too.

Thanks for taking the time to answer me, :nuke:

I apologize for not seeing this thread earlier.

My friend and I plan to rent a 2-bedroom apartment near the school, which is in a seemingly clean area with easy freeway access. We plan to stay in OKC during the week, and work weekend double shifts in DFW every Saturday and Sunday. My main issue is that I have a house in Fort Worth that I do not even want to attempt to sell in this depressed real estate market. Therefore, I'll stay in DFW on the weekends and remain in OKC during the week.

The apartments in OKC were renting for about $375 to $425 (1 bedroom) and $450 to $550 (2 bedroom).

I'm in OKC. Are you already set on gonig to Platt? I've just heard so many bad things about the program (and we have so many good ones here in OKC) that I just hope you've looked at all your options here.

There really aren't any "bad" areas of town. The south side is considered the "bad" side, but I'd live there with my ds no problem. I live on the East side of town now, but I've lived North and Central before and there are very few places I won't go at night. Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

I'm already set on going to Platt, even though I've looked at the community colleges and universities in the area. I'm fully aware they have a low NCLEX first-time pass rate, and I've already heard the negative feedback about their programs.

just wanted to be sure. I worked with a Platt student in my clinicals last month, and she said if she had it to do over she would have NEVER done platt. But now she's going on to RN and she's stuck because Platt is the only school that will give her credit for LPN since its not accredited. She said over 2/3 of her class failed the exit exam which was supposed to predict a passing score on the NCLEX. I just hate that so many people are out 20k after all that work :scrying: Good luck to you. She seems like she's going to be a really good nurse (she was on her leadership at the time) and has a good head on her shoulders so she's able to make the best of a bad situation.
