Pittsburgh Pay?

Published

Hey all! I am a med/surg/tele nurse in Tampa, Florida with a year and a half of experience. I am planning to move to Pittsburgh this summer but I have a lot of questions about the hospital systems and pay?

I make pretty good money where I live. $28hr +$5 night shift differential +$1 weekend.

I am wondering what are others experience with pay in the Pittsburgh area? Also any hospital systems you suggest working for?

Any suggestions would be very helpful. By the time I move I will have 2 years of experience. I know housing in Pittsburgh is cheaper than I pay now.. I'm just concerned about paying all my bills since I have massive amounts of student debt, sadly.

I've read that UPMC doesn't pay great. Any experiences with AGH? Night shift differentials? I've read some people say the night differential is $1 and to me that seems like a joke.. so any input would help greatly!

I may be interested in other fields than med/surg but.. depends on pay though. I know moving to Pittsburgh I'll be paying more taxes as well. Thank you all in advance!!!

I have no clue, I'm in LTC there is a Pittsburgh Nurse's Facebook page that is active and had a discussion about it

UPMC and AGH are fairly comparable in wages. The big difference is AGH is union for nursing at least so they get a set raise while UPMC has "performance based" percentage wages. They are both really pretty low with BSN salaries stating around 23 an hour. I know on our unit there is a charge differential of a dollar when you're in charge as well as a late/night shift one that I can't remember. Also let me tell you parking is ridiculous for the main hospitals. I pay 100 a month for parking across the street and that's the open lot not even the covered garage lot. Honestly UPMC and AGH kind of have a monopoly on the city so they can do what they want with wages.
