any passers out there????

Published

Hi all,

Feeling very, very discouraged here. Waiting on an ATT and reading past treads for tips and strategies but very, very rarely here good news on first time passers. Why is that? Are there any first time passers out there?? ( I am sure there are.) I am just not seeing it very often. I have almost told myself, "well, nobody passes on the first try." I do not want to go in to the exam with this attitude. I want to pass the first time. One reason is the expense. After all of the money we have all spent getting to this point $200 a pop is rough!! School has nickel and dimed me to death!!!! Any tips from anyone to help boost my confidence level for a first time pass? Would like some feedback.

Thanks,

Alisha B

Hi - please don't feel so discouraged. I just found out that I passed on the first try with 75 questions. Everyone from my class that I know of that has taken NCLEX already has also passed on the first try.

I took the Kaplan review course, and I thought the questions were very similar to the NCLEX questions. Having access to their QBank also made me work through their 1000+ questions (also because I paid $400 for the review).

My strategy was to do questions and read through all the rationales (right & wrong) and study from the questions that I got wrong. I also read through the blue Saunders review book.

Just try to slow down while you're taking the exam and reread the question and answers twice so you don't miss anything. And work through the answers. Ask yourself, for each answer, why is it a good answer? Does it answer the question? It might be a right answer, but maybe not for the question that you are on. Why is it a bad answer?

I tried to focus on the alternate-type questions as I got nearer to my test date, and I'm glad I did, because I ended up with 18 SATAs.

So good luck, and just stick to the posts with the good news! I definitely think you need to be in the right mind-frame when you go in to test.

Passed on first try with 75 questions- about 2/3 of my class that I know have has passed on the first time- You can do it!

Taking the test in 2 days. I really enjoyed the posting about rereading the question and the answers and making sure the answer fits the question. MY BIGGEST PROBLEM I browse through the question missing KEY words. :(

There are many that passed first time, if you trained in the US then stats are around the 90% range for passing first time. Just that once members have passed they move on and use other forums

Thank you all for your replies. Starting to feel much better. I did attend RN school in US so the 90% passing rate is very encouraging. Also been an LPN for 10 years so I hope that is slightly to my advantage as well. Thanks again to all!!!

Thank you so much for your reply. I did not realize the pass rate was so high. That is very encouraging. I have also been an LPN for 10 years so I hope that gives me a slight advantage as well as attending a US RN program. Thanks again. Much helpful!!

I recently passed on the first try. The odds are in your favor. I believe 80 something percent pass the first time (can't remember exact figure). I did the Kaplan review and felt prepared. I purchased the Saunders book, but felt the questions were too easy. They were basically recall questions. The Kaplan questions are higher level questions, comparable to nclex. Saunders is good for strictly content info. I reviewed all of the rationales to the questions. If I didn't understand the rationale, I looked it up in Saunders or my school books. I would avoid this site before your test and stop reading the failure posts. Schedule your test early in the am. I scheduled mine for 2pm and it was torture waiting around. I ended up going to the testing site early and they let me test. I was so relieved! Take your time with the questions. They don't care about speed, just accuracy. Good luck

Thank you! I am such a speedstar and I need to learn to focus on accuracy!!!!

NCSBN holds stats on passing and here is the current one for this year

Spend your energy preparing and you will be more likely to pass the first time. Good luck.

I passed the first time. You can do it!! Good Luck!!
