Pass/No Pass for Pre-req

If the nursing programs even accepted them, I am sure that pass/fail won't help your application. Most nursing schools are looking for your pre-req GPA to determine admission.

Well this math class isnt really part of the determing factor for alot of the programs here usually the factors are the Big three (Anat,Physio and Micro). but it is a pre-req that u need a passing grade for it (C or better).. as long as u pass it the grade isnt factored in

Has anyone done pass/no pass for a pre-req for a nursing program, mine is specifically mathHeres the situation, i cant get into any math classes in my college (they are full, and ive petitioned with no luck, usually there is about 50-60 people trying to petition for 5 spots)so i am planning to CLEP my math class, but my college gives a P/NP if u take the CLEP examhas anyone done this for their nursing pre-reqs?

Yes I have taken CLEP exams for some nursing pre-reqs, and regardless of the pass/fail, if you passed the CLEP you should be fine. At least a 50 is usually required, and that passing score actually equates to a "C" grade for the course. The higher your score on the exam, the higher the "grade". (so to speak) It doesn't harm your chances at all, it didn't harm mine. I just had to submit my official test score to the program, and it was accepted (and yes the courses had minimum required grades needed and the scores weren't a problem for that.)

Don't be alarmed by the pass fail thing because from what I understand all schools are sort of like this, and usually don't give a letter grade for the CLEP. It's just like any credit by examination test where you test out of a course. It doesn't factor into your actual GPA at all so it doesn't help it or harm it.

But if it's a grade you are looking to receive rather then just the credit for the course, then you may need to take the actual course to get a letter grade.

I did - two of them. I asked the nursing advisor - who said it has no impact on how they look at my application. They said, if anything it is an advantage because it shows inititive. They take the pre req gpa of the rest of the prereq classes. They do want to see grades for the hard sciences but none of those are on the school's list of acceptable CLEPs so it is irrelevent.

However, I changed my plans and am applying at a different school instead which requires a letter grade in every prereq. So I had to take them anyway - and now my transcript shows I attempted more credits than I earned - even though I passed everything I attempted every time. I don't like that, esp since my transcript history is complicated enough that it won't be easy to see what really happened.

You will want to ask the nursing advisors (not the general advisors) about the implications of CLEPping classes at your school.

Mind if I ask you about the CLEP? They're asking me for math--the college mathematics one looks the easiest. I just took the TEAS and NLN--are the subject tests similar? I'm so bad at math I'm really dreading this...
