Hello.
I am a paramedic in California. I am looking for a nursing school, working on my A&P Pre Reqs now. I am wondering if anyone has any info on any online programs, preferably an online bridge program.
I found this program and am wondering if anyone has info on it or has an alternative?
Paramedic to RN Bridge | Hutchinson Community College
I am also worried that CA BRN won't accept a program that has an an online component. I know they wont approve the excelsior program. This program says it has on site clinicals.
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

Are you going to move to complete this program?

It's online but it appears that it is for people who live in Kansas/the area. So unless you move, it's a no go.

If CA does not accept Excelsior, which enrolls LPN/LVNs, I do not think it will accept this program. I would get a specific answer from the BRN before advancing with your plans, unless you plan on relocating to KS and obtaining a KS RN license. Then, I would check with CA to see if CA will accept a KS license based on this program.

I suspect that if you enter the program, you will have to move to where the college is physically located (within driving distance of). While the BRN of California probably doesn't actually care much about how you obtain the didactic knowledge, they care very much about having concurrent clinical and didactic experiences. This is where Excelsior College (and students from the Philippines) ran into trouble.

"HCC has contracts with many Hutchinson area facilities that students can utilize as their clinical sites. Current contracted facilities consist of but are not limited to: Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Larned State Hospital, Via Christi St. Francis Campus, Via Christi St. Joe Campus, Hutchinson Clinic and Salina Regional Medical Center."
You would need to move there to complete the clinicals. It is intended for Paramedics that are local. It allows them to complete the classroom portion online and go to clinicals at their local hospitals.

There is no real paramedic-to-RN ladder; totally different professions even if there are some overlaps in some psychomotor skills. They may have created this program in part as a marketing thing. If you want to be a nurse, you have to go to nursing school and there are no real shortcuts.

There are real paramedic to RN bridge programs but they are far and few between. It is hard to find them and some stopped offering them. My CC stopped their program because the paramedics would miss a day because their jobs are rarely flexible enough to have a dedicated day for clinicals.
