Over studying??

All the time.

I used to, but nowadays I can tell when I've pretty much mastered the material and can turn my attention to something else for the time being. It's a very, very good skill to have!

For me it's a must to over-study for my 1st, and sometimes, my 2nd exams. Afterward, I generally get the gist of the material as well as the teaching style of the instructor, making studying a tad easier.

overstudying, no, no, I think I have the opposit problem. I wait to study till the night before and run out of time.

12 hours, yeah thats too much. You need a life outside school too.

I never had the problem of over studying. When i was in high school though I had a very bad habit of over cramming at the last minute. I always did well but it caused me an extreme amount of stress and I wasn't always concrete in my answers. Then I learned how to study every day, even if i didn't have a test in the near future. I found that when i studied and read my notes every day, i didn't have to study as much per day and the night before an exam became a rest day...which took away my test anxiety in ways i can't even begin to tell you. It really works! Now when i take an exam all i bring is my trusty pencil and eraser while everyone else brings their notes and textbooks, in addition they are usually studying like bats out of hell.

I had days when I studied the day before the test... not that I love doing that but because I had other tests that day. We test weekly. I thought I was going to fail or something...and I got an A. I have a pretty good memory and I get lucky sometimes ( the things I study tend to be on the test)

I don't think that 12 hours of study is over studying. I know I study more than that for each of my tests, but I don't do it in a cramming mode. I listen to my lectures when I'm driving or sitting at my sons' baseball games. I read my materials at least once and review it again. I spend several focused hours in the couple of days leading up to an exam, but overall I spend a significant quantity of time learning the material thoroughly, not just for a test but so that I understand the material.

Umm, I do have a life outside of school thank you.

There were definitely a couple times where I felt I was over-studying in Anatomy. I fully committed myself to that class so I would do well, and I think I studied more for that class than any other class I have ever been in before.

Not for every test, but for maybe 1 or 2 that I was expecting to be especially tough, I would study even more, and I recall the feeling of beginning to forget some of the material I had already learned and studied. I think I was burning myself out and somehow pushing the information out of my memory. Luckily, I would usually realize this a day or two before the test, and I would know to take a break from studying for a while, and just do a review the night or morning before the test.

Hopefully you can feel this happening while you're still studying and not when you're already taking the test. Be observant and try to assess whether you feel mentally exhausted, and remember to take frequent breaks from studying to allow the information to soak in. I wish you all the best
