Okay I'm currently attending a local college for their ASN program..... I have 3 classes left til I can apply to get in

a&P I and II

Microbiology..... Reg classes cost 81.00 ph and nur 118 per credit hour...along with the reg fees, books etc...

It has a waiting list from anywhere from 1-2 yrs..... but during the wait you can knock off some of the other required nonnursing courses like patho etc...... anyways

I found a LPN program about a hour away 56 miles one way...... NO waiting and I'd be able to get right in I'm sure.

but it costs 18,600 (everything included books, tests etc)

Should I just stay on the course I am...... suck it up and wait orrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

should I take a chance and commute and get into the LPN program?

PS) I did find other programs less expensive but they are 1 1/2 hours away. One was a total of 8,000..... thats about 10,000 less!!!! But I can't do that kind of commute..... the hour is gonna be longggggggggg enough!...

I would wait. I'm a lpn currently and here in wi it's not that easy to find a job as a lpn. If you decide to go the pn route, make sure there are lots of jobs out there for lpns. Time goes by anyway and it sounds like your original goal was ADN not lpn. It's a lot of $$ for lpn. We don't really make much. I make $18.50 hr as casual with no benefits and no guaranteed hrs.

OMG!! 18,000!!!! Where I live in Virginia the local LPN program through the vocational school only costs 2,500! This does include everything needed!

I am doing the online classes for my associate in healthcare and pharmacy practice. I start the LPN program in Aug. Gonna do both better variety on jobs! I want to work directly with patients no matter what the pay. For as long as i can remember that is all ive ever dreamed of. Now my girls are more able to help out so I can dedicate the time now for more intence schooling for the LPN. I have been a CNA for 13 years and also a phlebotomist for 11 years I love it. Just wanna be able to be more involved so I am able to better help my patients!

Personally I would wait for the RN program. While you are waiting, like you said, take as many of the other classes as possible. When you get all of the ASN classes completed, take as many of the BSN classes as possible to make best use of your time. You can also look at what is available for a minor and take some of those classes. You will be ahead of the game when you decide to progress to your BSN, and we know you're going to eventually go for your BSN, yes? Good luck.

In your shoes I'd take the lpn course. I'd rather be working as a nurse in one year than waiting four years (assuming a two year wait + two more to finish the ADN program) just to start working. If you take the lpn course then move straight into a lpn to rn program it would still be possible to finish your rn program before someone else in your same situation who waits two years to begin the rn program. I don't know how the rn program you're looking at runs their waitlist but some schools move lpns to the front of the line.
