Hi, Can anyone tell me if their unit opens the OR while VABC patients are in active labor or do you do a stat section, if needed. According to AORN, the OR should only be opened just prior to use.
Thanks

Our L&D unit has 3 dedicated ORs so I'm not sure I can help you if your hospital does ections in its main OR. But no, we don't keep an OR open/set up just because a VBAC pt is in active labor, because most unsuccesful VBAC attempts don't end in stat sections. They just end up as repeats for failure to progress, at least in my hospital.

Open? No, that would be a waste as the sterile field would be compromised. We would have an OR team in house and ready to go when/if needed tho.

nope....
we DO "pull" gloves and sutures and have them all ready to "pop open" if needed!

We don't open, or even pull anything. As Elvish mentioned, your likelihood of a repeat comes from failure to progress, not uterine rupture. However, we also have our own ORs and in-house attending OB coverage at all times.
