I work with a staffing agency on the weekends & am wanting to get PALS certification so I can go to have more opportunities- mixed med/surg & ED. The locations close to me- within an hour or so are only offering PALS classes during the week. Has anyone taken a PALS class online to get their initial certification? Did you get an adequate learning experience? Any problems getting facilities to accpet it? Should I just wait a few months for an in person course on the weekend?

You will need at least an in person skills demonstration. Anything 100% online likely won't be accepted by an employer. Some won't even accept anything other than AHA certification- we had an employee issue because she went with Red Cross CPR which we don't accept.

I would check the listing in your area, some will say PALS, or ACLS required.. but for some areas those certifications won't help you as an LPN because you are not able to push IV medications, so other then BLS they don't require further certifications. Not trying to say anything bad about LPN's, its just that scope of practice limits the ability to apply the additional interventions learned in the PALS and ACLS courses.

I agree with Rose Queen; from what I understand, most employers want "hands on" PALS/ACLS courses. They want you to participate in a code situation as a group, not on-line.

I forgot to renew my ACLS once. I was able to take the AHA approved on-line class, but I had to do the actual mega code in person with an AHA approved instructor. There were a list of facilities where I could sign up for just the mega code.

Online cpr and acls courses, especially for first time students make as much sence as an online driving school. Would you want your Uber driver to have attended an online driving academy?
