okay did I do

The right thing by waiting??my question is I refused to look for a job untill I pass my Nclex..Did most of you do this because I hope I didn't miss out.My situation is I graduated in September and I sit tomorrow for my exam,in my state you can not be hired as a GN and I figured why go out looking until I pass, why I notice others flood out looking for positions ,filling out applications and droping resumes off ,but did I do the right thing by waiting?? I just hope I pass and can get a job even though LTC is not my thing I am willing to start out and learn the ropes while returning to school at some point for my RN,hey I may actually like LTC who knows.

I waited until I passed NCLEX and had an actual license number before I started my job search. My reasoning was that no hiring manager could turn me away due to lack of a license.

I also waited...but i do regret it. My reasoning for waiting was that i needed the time to study for the NCLEX. However, i ended up not studying at all and i procrastinated all the way up untill three days before the test! As you can imagine, i was freaking out. I crammed for two days, rested on the third, and by the grace of God, i passed! (with the minimum # of ?'s nonetheless) But my point is that i had psyched myself out, i graduated, i should have trusted myself, i should have had the confidince in myself to know that i would pass the NCLEX. I put off working because i didnt want to have to face the humilliation of telling my new employer that i didnt pass. I made it thru the hardest, longest year of my life, i should have had confidence going into test. Hindsights 20/20 though, right. If i had it to do over, i would have got a job, then tested.

Well since its already done I wouldn't waste a second worrying about it. :) Wishing you all the best tomorrow with your NCLEX exam and I'm sure you will find a job very soon.

Many people feel bad after taking the exam but imvho getting the minimum number is a great sign. Keep us posted.

well not feeling great here, computer shut off at 85 and I know there is no way I knew 75 questions

My friend got 85 ?s, I got 105 and our other friend got 185. We all passed. Its not about getting 75 right. If you show weakness in an area it will spit more of those ?s at ya until you can prove you know or not. So Im thinking if you only got 85 ?s, you must know!! Thats just some positivity for ya. Im sure you did fine, as I said before, I dont know one nurse that leaves feeling like they aced it!!!!

PS I too waited to get a job. I too got into LTC "just to start" Now I love it!!

I started crying as soon as i got home, i just knew there was no way i passed when it cut off at 85?'s, but i did. I think that it is so stressful, i think most people come out of there feeling bad, but most pass, right! Keep your chin up, i hope u dont have to wait long. I was lucky, i found out the next day, logged on the state board website & started crying again when i saw my name, lol. I am sure u did great! :nurse: :yeah:

Congrats on passing!:yeah:Now the dreaded job search! I passed the NCLEX in September and I am just now starting my first job. Thankfully, where I am there is always an LPN job out there, I just decided to hold out for just the right position for me. I am a mom of 2 myself, so finding a job with just the right schedule for me did take me some time. (this is what i decided was best for us) I chose to do 12hr shifts,3 nights a week, i know, not usually a popular choice. But i can still be home when they get home from school, do homework & dinner then go to work and be home in time to drive them to school in the morning. I can sleep in the day, while they are gone, but still have the option to be there if they have something going on for school. This obviously is contingent on having someone home with them at night, thankfully my husband is, & although he will be sleeping alone three nights a week, he is willing to sacrifice for the extra paycheck! I wish you all the best in your search! :D

Realistically, most nurses begin on odd shifts, working weekends and holidays, so, this may be an issue for you. It may hold you back from gaining the much needed experience needed to move on to other things. Not trying to sound cruel at all, but nursing is 24/7.
