OCCC Spring 2015

Hello,

Is anyone applying for the nursing program at OCCC in the spring? I turned my application in this past Monday, 8/11. I talked to the nursing counselor, so I might be able to answer some of your questions. She only sees 5 or 6 people a day. It's going to get worse as the deadline for the spring gets closer, which is some time around labor day. Couple of key facts that I can share:

  • Point cut off last semester (Fall 2014) for alternates was 16. She said if you have 17 or 18 you have a good competitive chance at getting in.
  • This is the last time that Pharmacology, Medical Terminology, and Nursing Overview will be used for preference points.
  • She told me that I could earn a CNA by attending a 2 week course. I don't have the information in front of me but I can look for it if anyone needs it.

Hope that helps! :)

I applied there, too :) I'm wondering if the evening option is available during the spring...

I believe that's what time is offered in the spring!

I am super nervous I had 17 points I think and a 3.5 so hopefully that is good when I talked to the advisor she said I had 16 points, but that was before they added in the other classes I took that would raise my GPA to a 3.5 and get 2 point for that so I am keeping my fingers crossed !

Did you ever get an email?

I am nervous as well! And yes I did receive an email.

It might take awhile but you should get an email. It took 2 weeks or more for me to get one. I'm sure you'll get in. :)

Hello :) I also turned in my application a few weeks ago, I have 17 points with a 3.0GPA. Not as high GPA as I hoped for, but I am praying that it is good enough to get me in :)

I just read through the other posts, and I see that you ladies received emails that your application was received, however I have not :( I took my application in person and it was signed by the lady I gave it to and she said she would turn it in to the correct person. I will call tomorrow and see if and when I should be getting the email..

Question, are any of you going to be working during these next 4 semesters of Nursing school?

Yeah I plan on working a max of 24 hours, but not as a CNA.

Hello,

17 points is very competitive according to the nursing counselor. Have you talked to her?

I plan on working once I get into the program. If it is too much then I'll quit but as for now my plan is to work straight through. My job isn't too demanding so I plan on studying at work. We'll see how it goes.
