NYU Accelerated Nursing Program

Is anybody here applying for the NYU accelerated Nursing program for Spring 2014????

I'll be applying if I don't get into the Fall 2013 one.

You will get in for the fall semester. Stay positive.

I'll be applying for Spring 2014 as well. I have been following threads dating back to 2011. The people on the 2012 thread have amazing qualifications and stats! It seems like they accept people from across the board ranging from those who did exceptionally well academically to the non traditional applicant with the average GPA but outstanding experiences in life.

I'm working on my last three pre reqs (Anatomy and Physiology 1, 2 and Microbiology). So far, I'm doing well in the courses. I lack true health care/ health field volunteer or work experiences. Although I have volunteered at two hospitals, taught summer camp, and day care, all those experiences were from at least two years ago...

Does anyone know (or have heard from anyone who is in NYU) how experiences are weighed?

Good Luck to everyone else applying!

I'm applying for NYU's accelerated Nursing 2014 year too. Simplybliss, it seems like you have good experiences. I use to volunteer too at Queens Hospital but that was over 3 years ago...I'm planning on going back there to volunteer soon=] But other than that, I'm, not sure what other experience I can obtain to make myself a better candidate.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

btw how are you guys planning on submitting recommendation letters? Have you guys heard of submitting letters through Interfolio?

I'm applying!! :)

How is your GPA? Are you finished with the prerequisites?

My GPA is 3.4. I'm not finish with all my prerequisites yet. I will be taking micro and nutrition this fall semester. Those are the only ones missing. How about you?

Hey simplybliss

I attended an open house for the NYU accelerated program a few weeks ago. Experiences are weight considerably. However, lacking health care experience will not rule you out. They take everything into consideration; Reference letters are not a requirement but will make a difference in you acceptance decision. For instance, if you have no true health related experience, a good reference letter and a solid personal statement along with an average GPA will get you in the program. I work at NYU Langone Medical Center as a PCT. Some of the nurses at my unit graduated from The Accelerated program and had no health care experience.

Good luck to all of us!!!!!!!!!! Stay positive.

Yes I already finished my prerequisites and will graduate this December 2013. I have a 3.5 in the science gpa but my overall gpa is not that good.. I have experience working in a hospital so I'm hoping that helps as well.

Hi JayBlade,

Thanks for sharing and giving me some hope! I just wanted to update that I will be receiving A's in Anatomy and Physiology 2 and microbiology course. This will bring my Prerequisite GPA to a 3.7. I used help my psychology run studies in her research lab and she confirmed that she will write me a good rec. letter.

Because I work 2 jobs, I can't seem to fit in classes and volunteer. I emailed the school and they say my best bet would be to describe how my previous experience in a hospital or clinic setting may had helped impacted my decision to pursue Nursing despite my current track in law.

You are right! We should not give up! I'm looking forward to getting more active on this thread as my courses wrap up. :) Good luck to everyone!!

Hi Dove01,

Based on what I read in previous threads, relevant experience seems to be weighed more here compared to other schools. In that matter, I think you have a great shot and your GPA is not bad either. Do you mind sharing what your experiences are exactly?

Good luck!
