I just recieved a provisional acceptance letter. They have asked me to complete: Biology Fundamentals for Health Care Professionals. Anyone know about this, like the course itself and how long it takes to complete? Cost? I applied for January and Im assuming I will have to defer by a term in order to complete it....so March?

Is this a course offered by Simmons? I wonder why they would make you take that course? Is it because it has been awhile for you since your last Bio class? It makes me wonder if they will make me take something since it has been 5 years since school.
I dont know the details yet. The wording sounds like its given at Simmons. I havent has any science courses in about 10 years and no upper division sciences at all. Maybe thats why? I will be calling tomorrow to get more details.

If you have Facebook there are threefb pages for students accepted to Simmons. Yes you will have to take it starting in January before you can start the nursing courses sui technically you will begin in March with me!
And it is because you r science classes are older :)

I actually just finished the Biology Fundamentals Course this past fall. It actually was a wonderful "refresher" course to get you back into school-mode. I believe students that *just* met the requirements were asked to take this class. You must get a B or higher to be accepted fully into the FNP program. Personally, I absolutely love it. ----- was extremely knowledgable and an exceptional educator. She wrote the course and makes it directly applicable to nursing case scenarios, further preparing you for Patho, which you begin the following semester. All courses are based on the $/credit. Currently it's $1198/credit, the course is 2 credits. Ultimately, I think it was an exceptional class the gives you a good taste of how wonderful their online program is (Skype-based, real-time classroom setting), without the intense overload of two courses right off the bat. Best of luck!
Preppyrn- How many weeks long was the class? I am wondering if I will have to take this class. Back when I was 20 I took Microbiology with lab and Anatomy Physiology with lab and 2 other classes at the same time. I was not use to taking such study invasive classes like this at the time and I made Cs in both of the classes. My two other Biology classes I took separately I made a B and an A in. I also made an A in my second part of Anatomy Physiology. It was just those two courses together that messed me up. Also I never had to take a Chemistry course either for nursing. So do you think I will have to take this class? My nursing GPA is a 3.52 and my cumulative is 3.0
Thanks for the info, preppyrn, that is very encouraging. I found out that the course is 8 weeks long. Terese, you will probably be asked to take it if you made lower grades in sciences or it has been awhile since taking any sciences. I have logged in on the program page and some students have to take 1-3 courses for acceptance. Biology refresher, statistics (again), and health assessment. If the admissions committee thinks a student needs it, they probably do. I was disappointed, at first, that I have to take an extra course as I am ready to get the show on the road!! I realized though it will be good to refresh myself and get used to their online platform. I'm so excited!
OkieICU once you take these courses and pass do you automatically get accepted in to the next cohort? For example lets say you apply for the March cohort and you have to take these refresher courses then will you have to wait until the following cohort or will there be enough time to take them before the March courses start?
Terese, I applied for January and that application cycle deadline was in November. When did you apply and for what cohort? The biology class I have to take is 8 weeks long, starts in January. I have to pass with an 83 and then will start the core nursing courses in March, which is when the next cohort starts. It would probably be a good question for your advisor. I don't have a whole lot of information because I recieved my acceptance right before their holiday break; I still have some questions myself. :)

Got my letter today that i was NOT accepted. Really bummed, no reason was given. My admissions rep is on vacation for two weeks too.
Very bummed. I feel I had a strong essay, and great recommendations.
