Nursing school from Hell

O.K. I am so upset and disgusted with nursing school!! I feel like quiting!! :angryfire

I am currently in OB. I passed the last part of med&surg which took the life out of me!! :uhoh3: and all the instructors told us that if pass the last part of med&surg everything else will be smoothing sailing. But that is just the problem I took my test today and got one of the lowest scores in the low 60's and I thought I knew everything the class average was 83%. I spoke with my instuctor today about it and she said that a grade does not mean anything and further more I was more capeable then that, plus she even told me I know my stuff!! which made me feel better but still I don't understand what the problem is I thought this class would be easier. Not only to make matter worst I have a quiz next week Tues. and have to work Wed, Fri and a dbl on Sat. I just started this job and feel like quiting already but am afraid because it will the the 2nd one in 4 months and will look bad on my resume! I don't know what else to do!! I am lost for words!! and am just scared and nervouse. Does anyone have any good advice or I am just an over anxious nut!!! :uhoh3:

I asked her which one we should know and she said know 30 for my class and 42 for your Med-Surg class, OK fine I can do that, but what about on Boards????????

Know 30cc/hr for boards.

okay, so I'm very very close to graduating from nursing school (magic number is 40 days!) and I'm excited and totally freaked out at the same time. in every single job i've had before this, i picked things up so quickly and i was always the person everyone would go to with obscure questions, and it's SOOO not that way now. i can deal with that, it's my goal to become great at what i do, i'm just not used to the slow process, you know? so much to learn....anyways, i'm in my senior preceptorship at a children's hospital in the ER, and my nurse preceptor is really good at unintentionally making me feel like a moron! i mean, she got mad at me the other day because I didn't grab her while I was triaging a patient (which consisted of only asking questions, no hands-on yet at that point). i know her license is on the line if i make a huge mistake, but come on, asking health history questions requires her standing over my shoulder? i guess i figured that if i can't do that by now, maybe i'm in the wrong profession (which i can, but she seemed to make a bigger deal about it). i'm just nervous that i'm going to graduate, pass my boards, then get into orientation and i'll just flip out. i'm praying for a wonderful, understanding, and patient nurse for orientation. i don't think my school did a good job for us in clinical skills, so i feel like there's so much stuff i should know how to do but don't. ugh....i hate that uncertain, what-the-heck-is-going-to-happen feeling, you know?? :uhoh3:

I am in the LVN program going into taking the pharmacology final next week. Scared to death. What I hate about my instructor is that she doesn't want to stop and answer a question if you don't understand during the class time and won't stay after school as she doesn't get paid. And, she says, "we will probably lose 10 of you in pharmacology and a few more in med/surge." I don't understand why they have to say that just before a test.

If you want to stay in nursing school you may have to give up the job. Very hard to do this plus have to work a job with that many hours?

sylviamon...there are teachers who think that the more they 'weed' out the better teacher they are..."these people are just not meant to be nurses" but you can last and if you pass your tests.there isn't much they can do about it...do not resign no matter how much pressure they put on you

get a study buddy, get all books that you think you need -- pharmacology is hard because it is a whold new ball game...something that you cannot relate to in your past exiperence...but it is do-able--and it is something that you will need down the road...

group your meds in groups...one day you will turn a corner and everything will come into focus...that is one of the "ain't i good" moments in life...
