nursing and overtime?

There are some places that have "mandatory overtime" and there are some places that get upset if staff works overtime to finish their shift work....That said, my experience is that if you are willing to work extra shifts most places are willing to let you! 0y hospital would rather we pick up shifts to cover sick calls or vacations than fill in with agency.

I can get all the OT that I am able to work. I typically do 4 11am-11pm each week.

Where I work there is always over time, they will mandate if no one volunteers; typically we are short 3PM-midnight, on most units.

If you are truly a nurse the ot will be automatic .You will not be able to let go and pass on things for fear they won't get handled unless you come across a few that are like you to relieve you and that you can trust to follow through.I can't remember the last time I left on time.Our administrator said he would rather we stay and finish our charting or whatever because a lot can happen while your gonne and then no documentation to back it.Love that man.Finally an administrator that cares.

Our facility has cut out almost all OT. I am looking for a 2nd job just so I can get an extra shift per week. Bummer!

I could work 7 12's a week if I had the inclination. Usually I work 9 12hr shifts per pay period, so three extra shifts every two weeks.
