Nursing in Mexico

Hello,

Does anyone know how nursing as a profession in Mexico compares to the U.S.?

I know that it is still a little conservative compared to the U.S. -- men are doctors and women are nurses (99%), but are the career options, mobility, and pay comparable? Do they even have such a thing as Nurse Practitioners? I am not one currently but that is my long-term plan. Moving to Mexico may be another long-term plan.

My fear is that a nurse in Mexico is a low-paying, blue collar job; like it used to be for many years here in the states, many years ago.

If anyone could shed some light on the subject I would appreciate it. Thank you.

You hit it right on the head, the pay there is much less than the US. Does not compare in any way to the salaries that can be earned in the US.

my theory teacher told me that she had a hispanic patient once who was visting from mexico. Very dignafied, and treated my teacher "like a maid" can't remember what exactly the situation was. but she said that is just how nurses are looked at in mexico, nothing special.

Thanks. Sounds like there's little hope of finding advanced practice nurses or NPs there.

I'm from Mexico. Yes it's pretty conservative but slowly the proffesion is getting better and is slowling having a better possition, still yes, it's still a blue collar profession besides we do exactly as much as in other countries. :( That's why i'm considering in moving overseas when i'll finish my studies.
