Nursing Exams Now Require Advisor Approval

Just found out that all nursing exams now require advisor approval prior to registration. According to the advisor I spoke with this morning, this change was made a "couple of weeks ago" and was not communicated to existing students.

The advisor also told me that multiple exams can be approved at one time (I had her go ahead and approve LS 1-3 for me) but that the approval is only good for 6 months.

I spent a good chunk of time on Monday attempting to register for LS1, only to have the system not even let me select the exam from the list. Hope this saves a few others some frustration.

I guess this was a change for ADN exams? I was in their BSN course and all nursing exams (there are only two now) required approval from one's adviser and had to be completed within 6 months. I wound up never taking an actual nursing exam but did take the upper-level Ethics exam through EC.

Yes, it's a change for the ADN program. Previously, you were able to register for each exam without prior approval as long as you were currently enrolled and in good standing in the program.

Wow!!! Thanks for the information, that will be valuable to many people. :cat:

Thanks for posting this! I recently spent half a week trying to register for a class before I broke down and emailed the school. An adviser quickly ok'd me to take the exam I was ready to take, but what a headache. I thought I was going crazy, or that something was wrong with my computer, haha!

An easy way to get approval for courses (1) Log into the MyExcelsior page (2) Under the My Home tab click on My Academic Planner (3) Once on MAPlanner page select "Progress" (4) Select the course(s) you plan to take and seek course approval.

Hope this eliminates all possible headaches that may occur :)
