Nurses who work in Boston....how?

Hello!

I just landed my first job in a Boston hospital and I was wondering whats the most efficient way to get into the city?

I was going to take the train into north station but looking at the schedule I wouldn't get to the hospital on time for my 7am shift  (from north station I have to take the T to the longwood area)

What works best for you Boston nurses? Is public transportation the way to go (train...subway)? I hate driving into the city...stressful!!:arghh:

Thank you!

You are coming from north of Boston I assume? There are better routes from the south shore sadly. You could drive, park at alewife, and take red line to green line or orange line...

The best thing to do is to move to the city. ;)

The orange line has parking at many stops north of the city and you can walk to Longwood from Ruggles or Roxbury Crossing. I'd avoid the green line at all costs if speed is what you're looking for but, if you're closer to 95 than 93, you could drive and park at Riverside or Woodland.

Monthly parking is probably not that much more expensive than the commuter rail from zone 8 anyway.

When I lived north of the city, I would drive to Alewife and take the red line to Central Square and then the 47 to the Longwood area. It's about $7.00 to park there. Or you could drive to the Riverside station and take the D line to Fenway but like the pp said, the green line can be really annoying :) If you work at Children's, there's a shuttle that runs from Children's Waltham into Longwood and it's free to park in the Waltham garage (or it used to be).

And yes moving into the city is definitely more convenient KelRN! I don't miss the commuting at all!

I did a traveling job in Boston and commuted in each day on the commuter rail from RI. I would take it to Ruggles station and then take the orange line. I would get there about 6:30-6:35. So, it can work.

Where are you coming from? You could take the commuter rail to Ruggles, Back Bay or South Station too.

I just accepted a permanent job there in the Longwood area. I recommend an app called embark Boston. It tells you which trains to take and how long it'll take to get there.
