Did anybody see the Fox News special last night called "Nurses Who Kill?" If so what were your impressions. Was it "fair and balanced" or do you think nurses were unfairly portrayed?
Thanks for your response.

I did not see it...but just by the title, I doubt "fair and balanced" would likely and aptly describe this report.

I didn't see the show, but I live in the same area as the "killer nurse" that was just found so all the newspaper has been about lately was all the people he may have killed and how and other "angels of death" have done the same thing. Of course this is a terrible event and unfortunately really exists, but at the same time, the majority (high majority) of nurses aren't like this and to me it's frustrating what it's doing to the image of nurses.

In all areas of life, it takes all kinds. But when that certain someone is a nurse, trusted to care for those helpless and hurting, and respected by the general public-it tends to be much more of a betrayal. Our public image is of a nurturing, caring profession- not of mass murderers. Mercy killing or not.
Every few years, we hear of another one. I choose to believe that we as a society recognize that one screwed-up individual does not represent all of us. Nurse or not.

I didn't see it either, but Fox News hasn't really seemed fair and balanced for awhile. I can't even watch the news anymore without getting angry at how they hype up every single freaking thing.....

No I missed it . The suspicions of the general public have been given another boost by our sensationalizing media.

No my dear it is not the media. It was one of our own that gave us this black eye.
It is worse than sensational that a nurse would do this.
I know it is very painful to acknowlege a nurse did this. But that does not change the fact. If it had not happened it would not be reported. Not the other way arround. A nurse killed. Sadly yes, it is news.
What makes it even more news worthy is that this was someone the public without second thought trusts, and that trust was violated in the worse way.

This is perfect media fodder. This doesn't reflect poorly on nurses in general in the least, IMO. The guy was a serial killer. John Wayne Gacy played the part of a clown, but his heinous crimes did not reflect poorly on all other clowns. I didn't see the Faux report either, but I'm not falling for the hype.

I understand what you are saying Agnus. It IS a crying shame this killer with a history of problems slipped through the cracks of our system without being detected. That hurts.
Other serial killers have not been identified by their profession "Killer carpenter" or "Killer accountant" and that is what I find sensational about this reporting approach.
It is a fact that most serial killers are men....but male nurses may feel the sting of this worst of all as he was identified as the 'killer male nurse'...insinuating to the public there may be something sinister about your nurse, particularly if he's male.
Yes its true, it hurts...but if 1 in 40 people is a nurse, what are the stats for nurse serial killers as compared to the general population? Hopefully THAT was reported as well. I prefer seeing the big picture...butI know that doesn't always make for 'good news'...LOL!

Well, unfortunately the title was very inflammatory. The articles that followed on the website are well researched and the bibliography looks pretty flush also. We will have sick people attracted to this profession until the end of time because of the intimate ways we are involved in patients lives. I can see why
Fox news chose now to do these articles, since we have had a few "newsmakers" pop up recently, but it is unfortunate overall that this is being spotlighted.
************NURSES WHO SAVE LIVES*************
as a title.
aww nah, not sensational enough. ONE Monster will be highlighted and therefore the profession sustains yet another black eye.
It is infuriating to me. Punish the offender...but dont' sensationalize or bring fame to this monster.....please.
