Hi! I will be graduating in May 2010 from UF with a BSN; I have been trying to research different nurse residency programs and opportunities but am having a hard time finding them. I've found a few, but i'm sure there are more out there. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? When should I start applying to programs/hospitals? I'm interested in moving to Boston or Atlanta if I could find a residency program that I would be able to get into...
Any information would be appreciated!! thanks!!

Don't limit yourself to only those hospitals that use the word "residency." Many hospitals have programs that are basically the same thing but use words like "internship," and "new grad program."
Find hospitals that appeal to you. Then investigate their orientation program to see if it is right for you -- regardless of what they call it. What they call the program is much less important than what it actually is ... and whether the hospital is a nice place to work.

Where is "UF"? Florida?
You might check out King's Daughters Medical Center (Ashland, KY):

Also see their fellowships in ICU/ER/Perioperative (links on the left side of the page shown above).
KDMC is still hiring new grads. They seem to have a very decent new grad program (6 weeks long, at the end of which you get to interview for your top 3 preferred specialties), and have cohorts starting the new grad orientation in July & August. They don't offer relocation, loan repayment, or sign-on bonus, but they seem to have a very high employee retention rate & decent benefits.
Good luck!

atlanta is now saturated with new RN grads, I would suggest that you move somewhere else instead of Atlanta.
I am a new RN grad living in atlanta, I have graduated since May 09 passed my NCLEX since August and I am still without a job. At this time even nursing homes are not giving new grads a chance. If you still want to move makes sure you applied around february for a residency program otherwise you would have to wait until next feb to be able to apply again as most of the hospitals in Atlanta only accept new grads through their residency programs only once a year.

It's no wonder I couldn't find any openings at any of the hospitals in Atlanta. I was hoping that there would be openings at Emory but surprising they are not hiring resident nurses at this time.
Where else have you applied for nurse residency/new grad programs?

Does anyone know which of the hospitals in Pennsylvania, Texas, and Nevada are having new grad programs/residency now?
Mucho gracias!

All Children's in St Pete is already full and apparently they only do the residency once a year. I can tell you, the Tampa Bay area sucks for new grads right now. There isn't a job in sight. I have a friend in Ft Myers (@ Lee Memorial) who says they are hiring new grads.... wish I could move.

Nothing available in Massachusetts unless you are an internal applicant right now.

I know, dumb question, but how is a nurse residency program different from just getting a job as an RN? I'm not a nurse which is obvious, my daughter's in nursing school so I'm just wondering.
I am, however, a UF graduate(:
